Wood cookstoves, cool mornins and country grub. [preachin]

Stokin the fire in the wood cookstove is a pleasant task--especially in the mornings. The house is cool, fire's almost out or maybe even out-but that don't matter none! Just takes a few more minutes to get'r agoin. Lay those kerosene soaked corn cobs in the bottom where the coals USED to be-yesterday. Start dumpin small kindling on top of those cobs, drop a farmer match, open the draft as well as the damper and stand back.

While the old raskel is "gettin with it" roll out those biskits on the floured table, cut'm out with a jar ring, grease the pan-slid'r in the oven. While those dudes are bakin-start buildin the surp [farm talk for syrup] from water and sugar. [We also can't forget the coffee!]

Also while those biskits are bakin, surp is boilin---throw some hog meat in the iron skillet to fry. If ya'll are real hongry--fry up about a dozen farm fresh eggs to go with all the other stuff. Fresh churned butter-built right here on the farm-makes the biskit thing complete.

By the time all this stuff is cooked-the kitchen is toasty warm from the old cookstove that's just a jumpin it's burn'n so hard. Close the damper, shut down the draft a mite, set the table and enjoy one of the finest meals ever made for ANYBODY!

Another fine, cool day to work outside with the animals and around the homestead. Doin chores in these early fall/winter mornings is a special time for most farm folks. It's these times that I felt closest to Almighty God. His Creation is a work of art that's meant to be cherished and enjoyed by everybody. If it's so nice here on earth can you imagine just how breathtaking it will be in heaven---and for all ETERNITY?
