Best organic ag magazine out there, IMO. Been getting it for about 10 years. The editor, Charles Walters, writes in a matter that can be extrememly hard to follow, but the info is also in the vangaard, and points out lotsa crap the government has been up to.

I went to the conferences twice too, since they were held in Mpls, and met lotsa neat people.

Yes, you can call it an "oversized" magazine...

Yes, Earthmamma... Charlie Walters tells it as it is... the October editorial was a prize winner...

never went to the conference due to money...

I used to subscribe, but let it lapse when I realized I wasn't really reading it anymore. I found some of the science and health articles dubious. Maybe that has improved.

Haha.........dubious? Has that 'improved'? Heck no, sure hope it never does! Dubious, according to the status quo anywho, is what the alternative press specializes in, and dubious dont mean wrong! I expect most every book we sell on our site would be described by most people as dubious! :)

Dubious doesn't mean wrong. However, it does mean it is of questionable value and 'unsettled in opinion". Guess I like a little more research for my opinions; that is my value. But then I am a natural skeptic and ask lots of questions.

Hey, if standing on your head, drinking micro-water or eating only live foods makes you happy, heck, go for it, I won't stop you. I am only saying that I look for that which results can be duplicated by following a controlled set of circumstances to the degree possible and appropriate. The world is full of exceptions and many people farm well or are well because of it. I am just looking for ways which can be employed to repeat the success.

Yep, skeptics is what we is. Course some of us tend to be more skeptical of the 'party line' coming from the mainstream, because we know from whence comes their funding for their 'research'. As for me, I AM an obsessive researcher, spending a large amount of my time reading and searching for differing opinions on subjects that fascinate me, both from mainstream and alternative medias, since I believe in knowing all sides as much as possible.

As far as replicating results from successful natural farmers, all one has to do is go to history, where humans have been doing most of these same things for millenia. You will not find any institutions sincerely or significantly giving the issues of natural farming any time or money; the governement has as a stated goal to eliminate small farms! Of course they and the media will continue to denigrate natural ways and misinform the populace about the wonders of conventional agriculture. The same is true for natural healing. Everything seems weird when we first hear of it, and although the same could be said for, say, irradiation, at least the old ways are not harmful.

I have attended the Upper Midwest Organic conference for the last several years.... and sadly... there are many successful organic farmers there with repeated success... and sometimes using unorthodox methods...unfortunately... you NEVER see the gov't helping these farmers and or reporting how they do it for others to have repeated success...

I am one of the biggest skeptics there are... and I have learned that many "odd" things are out there... however, it might be the one thing that works for someone desparately needing help...

and I have a big distrust of the AMA... so tend to look to all alternative medicine... and yes, we have to give these "odd" methods credence... for years...

heck many years ago, folks never trusted what is now trusted as orthodox medicine...

change is hard and I see way to many folks wanting good hard evidence in everything...and some days...it is just hard to find because the powers that be don't want it published due to loss of information or income on their part...

so...
