Kidnapping Suspect Nabbed; Victim Says She Got His Name: "Gregory Alexander Whitener, 29, faces kidnapping, assault and burglary charges in the incident. Hickory police said the victim, a 65-year-old Hickory [NC] woman, dozed off while watching television late Friday and awoke to find Whitener in her house. Armed with kitchen knives, he allegedly forced the woman into the kitchen and threatened to rape and murder her. Police said the victim finally convinced Whitener to leave the house by writing him a check. He left on foot around 5 a.m. Saturday, after giving the woman his name and address."

Cash can get lost or stolen, and most rapists don't take checks. That's why if I ever find myself taking hostages in impotent rage, I will be sure to ask for American Express™ Travelers Checks, the travelers checks most sexual predators negotiate with. I wonder if she was trying not to smirk while he told her his name. I mean, she was probably too involved in trying to save herself to engage in levity, but still, I had to wonder.

How many of her friends did she call to brag about it, I wonder. Her friends were all like, "Oh, hello, Cloris. Guess what. My rheumatoid arthritis medicine wasn't what was upsetting my stomach... it was the topical anaesthetic they used for the gangrene on my..." and then she was like,

"Listen, screw-heads -- here is a woman who would not take it anymore!"

And that guy's ears are burning while he sits in jail because he's so busted.
