What's your theme song?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MATH Plus One : One Thread

I think someone asked this on pamie's board a few months ago, but I'm shamelessly stealing the question ... what song does the best job of describing who you are?

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

Answers

Oh, and right now I'd say my answer is Garbage's "When I Grow Up."

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

When I Was A Boy - Dar Williams

I was a kick-ass little kid, and I miss myself.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

Uh, I dunno. Right this second it is Jose Cuervo or Margaritaville or any song involving lots and lots of alcohol.

I think a more interesting question is what do you think other people round here should have as their theme song?

Like, for Keli, my mom role model, it would be Harper Valley PTA.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

Heh. I like that Shae. Plus, I'm sure when I was all drunky-drunk I told everyone about how Harper Valley PTA was filmed in Lebanon, Ohio, a hop skip and a spit from where I am.

For AB, it's got to be Everybody Wang Chung Tonight.

And when I think of HannahBeth, I think of Dancing Queen.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

And for Mike, Hey Ladies!

I would kill to see you karaoke that.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

Who I am, or who I want to be? Who I am would be "He's on the Phone" by Saint Etienne, particularly Got the cash / and feeling flash / in Leicester Square.

Who I am, I'm less sure. Clichéd a choice as it is, Ani DiFranco's "32 Flavors" would probably work.

See, for Mike I would've picked "Centerfield."

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

Is there a song that combines sports ability and studliness?

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

"I am Not a Pretty Girl", by Ani, is pretty much my eternal theme song. I wish there was a fast, hard version of it. And "As Cool as I Am" by Dar Williams, because I like to remind myself that I will not be afraid of women.

I imagine Mike's theme song to be "Alright Guy", by Todd Snider. HannahBeth is "Catch", by The Cure. NakedHannah is "Xanadu", by Olivia Newton-John. T is "These Boots are Made For Walking", by Nancy Sinatra. Keli is "It's Oh So Quiet", by Bjork. The MOC is, of course, "Superman", by REM. AB has to be "You Ain't Woman Enough", by Loretta Lynn.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

It figures that came out all wonky. It took me a million years to post (damn the man).

Mike's theme song to be "Alright Guy", by Todd Snider.

Is there a song that combines sports ability and studliness?

I'm sure there is, but it certainly wouldn't apply to me!

I wouldn't pick this as her theme song, but I'd kill to see PineappleGirl karaoke "I Fought the Law," especially if she dedicated it to Texas' finest and made up hew own lyrics as necessary.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

Robyn, do you know why I love you?

You are maybe the only person I know who has a clue who Todd Snider is. And he's still my boyfriend, so hands off.

But still, I feel great love for you.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

the chorus of the stones' song "you can't always get what you want" does a fairly adequate job of summing up my life. because, if i try, sometimes i find i get what i need.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

Oooh, I like Keli's suggestion of "Dancing Queen."

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

Uh uh, sisterfriend. I'm saving him to be my fourth husband, after I marry Lenny Kravitz. If you need to marry him, please keep him available for much of the sex making.

Have you seen the man in person? Swoon. Pictures do not do him justice.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

I have met him MANY times in person. MANY. One might even say I stalked him.

He has the damn sexiest bare feet EVAH.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

And with that Keli becomes my mentor and hero.

Are you feeling the love? Because I'm sending love. Big love.

Next TS show, it's you and me.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

Well sugar, that would be HERE, tomorrow night at the Blue Note.

You'll be here, right?

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

Ooh, I like ALL of Robyn's suggestions. K, you sure about that Wang Chung thing?

Mike's karaoke version of "Eat It" is not to be missed, people.

My Ani theme song (we all seem to have one!)for the day is Asking Too Much.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

AB, my dear, I can change it to Always In Love by Wilco.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

No, I'd rather Wang Chung than Always in Love. I retract the earlier statement!

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

Hee.

You're all about the fun. And the love.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

Ooh, can I pick "In the Air" by Jennifer Nettles? For me.

For HannahBeth I'd pick "Shape the Hand of Fear."

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

If you weren't an 8 hour drive away, I'd totally be there.

BUT! It's a four hour half trip, so I think we need to find a halfway point, and that's where we put Todd after we abduct him and make him our sexual plaything.

Ahem, the rest of you guys didn't see that.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

Drive to here tomorrow and then Thursday we will go to Indianapolis. He's always good in Indy. Best show ever? His birthday show in Indy 1996.

Goddamn I'm old.

T- She, by Edie Brickell

Naked Hannah - Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

T- She, by Edie Brickell

I do read expensive magazines, but I don't think I see myself in everything.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

Ah, but you glow, you glow, you glow around us like the moon. And we can't judge you for that.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

It's the simple words...probably on our account.

Maybe Naked Hannah should get "Welcome to the Jungle"!

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

And I do know where my head is at.

Now I want to go home and listen to my Edie Brickell albums while I cook dinner.

Let's see. I need to think about these before I list mine.

-- Anonymous, October 23, 2001

A Woman Soon? Lord, y'all, I hope so. I think I've revirginitied by now.

-- Anonymous, October 25, 2001

Revirginitied LIVE! is going to be the name of my fifth album.

-- Anonymous, October 25, 2001

I'd have to say right now mine is Flourescent Lights by Carissa's Weird. "and I just hate these flourescent lights.." says it all. second up is Staralfur by Sigur Ros simply cause it's cutesy and has the word 'star' in it. yep. I made it my 'constant' theme.

don't know y'all enough to think up theme songs, but go ahead and try to classify me if ya like. hah.

-- Anonymous, October 25, 2001

Well, my Ani theme song is Gravel, because it seems to describe just about every relationship I have ever been in with the exception of the current one. Whoa. Thats different.

My other theme songs are Amarillo by Morning by George Strait, and Sad Sweetheart of the Rodeo by Harvey Danger.

...wow, I look alot like a hick over here. :/

-- Anonymous, October 25, 2001

Well, my Ani theme song is Gravel, because it seems to describe just about every relationship I have ever been in...

Well, on that note my Ani theme song is As Is

Except in college when the guy I was dating was in a band. I used to play Napolean and glower at him.

-- Anonymous, October 26, 2001

I wouldn't pick this as her theme song, but I'd kill to see PineappleGirl karaoke "I Fought the Law," especially if she dedicated it to Texas' finest and made up hew own lyrics as necessary.

Okay, it's not AB but PG on AB's computer but I don't want to mess with her cookies. And, Mike, you've got a deal. I will dedicate this to Austin's Finest, and also, you.

As for the rest, I have to think about these. What a great question!

-- Anonymous, October 26, 2001

PG, I would also accept "Jailhouse Rock."

-- Anonymous, October 26, 2001

My theme song earlier this year was Shelby Lynne's "Why Can't You Be"- but I'm working to get past that, I swear. I want something cheery.

-- Anonymous, October 26, 2001

PG again here:

"I Fought the Law" = possibility. Elvis = no chance.

But, Mike, I'd be happy to do a little western swing / jitterbug with you to "Jailhouse Rock" if someone else will sing...

-- Anonymous, October 26, 2001

While I could pick MANY REM songs as my theme song, I believe the one non-REM songthat I like best for me is "Drift Away".

"Give me the beat, boys, and free my soul/ I want to get lost in your rock and roll/ and drift away."

That just about sums it up.

-- Anonymous, October 29, 2001

Okay, it's not AB but PG on AB's computer but I don't want to mess with her cookies.

Sometimes I surprise even my own self with my intuition! hee.

_______________

But, right now my theme song is "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," Pink Floyd, or possibly "Prince of Darkness," Indigo Girls.

I reserve the right to change my song to something more perky in the near future though.

-- Anonymous, October 29, 2001

My ani song would probably be 'silhouette'. Either that or, 'Untouchable Face'. I'll stick with silhouette. Not much more flattering, buy my theme song is probably Sandy Rogers, 'Fool for Love'. That, or Prince, 'Sexy MF'. That's what my phone says, so it must be true. ;)

-- Anonymous, October 30, 2001

What song is 'Silhouette', Fred? I no know that one!

-- Anonymous, October 30, 2001

Oops... sorry. You're right. Wrong name. Try, 'Overlap'. And now that I think about that part of the song, it fits even better.

-- Anonymous, October 30, 2001

Oh! Okay. I'm dumb.

Please carry on with the theme songs.

-- Anonymous, October 30, 2001

bumping up...

-- Anonymous, February 25, 2002

Wow! I have no idea who y'all are, but I stumbled across your little universe here and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it... I too am an Ani fan, and I would say my "Ani theme song" -- at the moment, of course -- is "This Bouquet." As for a non-Ani theme, I'd go with Ellis Paul's "Sweet Mistakes." :)

-- Anonymous, May 18, 2002

I amend that... my non-Ani theme song is "Wig in a Box" from Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

-- Anonymous, May 22, 2002

Right now my theme song is Damn, it feels good to be a gangsta by the Ghetto Boys. It's been my theme song before, when I lived in Dallas and hated my job and I used to blast it every single morning for a year going through my very nice neighborhood, horrifying the citizens of Highland Park.

Anyway, whenever I have a low self-esteem day, or I am feeling particularly frustrated, I crank it up. I am currently playing it at my desk, and I am sure the vulgarities will cause my computer to melt at any moment.

-- Anonymous, May 29, 2002

As heard in "Office Space"? Bwa ha! Righteous!

Mine, whilst employed at v. hateful job, was MC 900 Ft Jesus' "Adventures In Failure". ("Damn! I hate this job! To work in this dump, ya gotta be a slob! Everyone gets on my nerves in this place. I think I'll take the afternoon off from the rat race. An exciting carer...don't amount to much but a pain in the rear.")

Now, unemployed and prospectless, I relate to The Association's "Just Like Always", which basically bemoans how much it sux to have no money, no job, and no sweetie. (And yeah, I betray my age, somewhat, but it was my DAD's album first, okay?)

Or maybe my current theme is Oasis' "Cigarettes & Alcohol", since funemployment has its perks. (*snerk*)
