Pie Crust Recipe

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

I've been using a recipe to make pie crust that uses oil. I use Canola oil,so it's better for you. I found this recipe in my old Better Homes Cookbook. I will share if any one would like for me to print it. I just made it with some apples my husband got from a friend at work. I just love free food.

Please share it Jo. I like pie once in a while, but don't like the shortening. Thanks!

Hi Jo,

This is slightly off the pie topic, but I'm always confused about the types of oil & shortenings that there are and what is good & bad about each. Too many rumors! Can anyone clarify some info about what might be best? Thanks

Here's the recipe for the pie crust Oil Pastry 2 cups flour 1 1/2 t. salt 1/2 cup salad oil (canola oil) 5 T. cold water or milk Mix flour and salt, pour oil and water into measuring cup but do not stir. Add all at once to flour. Stir lightly with a fork. Form into two balls; slightly flatten. Roll between two 12 in squares of waxed paper. (dampen table slightly) Roll dough to edges of paper, this will be the right thickness.Peel off top sheet of the paper and fit dough, paper side up,into pie plate. Remove the paper. Put in filling and roll out top crust. Makes 8" or 9" pie: double crust. From the Better Homes and Garden Cookbook
