Winston Rodney in NYC Subway Station this morning.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Burning Spear : One Thread

I nearly jumped out of the packed F-train in Brooklyn this morning (Monday 10/23) when I saw Burning Spear walking down the platform, but it was too damn crowded. Ha ha! The trains were stopped and cancelled due to a police investigation about anthrax and everyone in the station was uneasy, looking around nervously. Or was that just a passing glance, to paraphrase Don Carlos?

All I could think about was finding Mr. Rodney and telling him that his show 15 years ago at the La Palmoa theater in Encinitas, CA was the most incredible concert I have ever witnessed (At the time I was a surf rat in junior highschool. Ha ha! It kills me, it really does.) Seriously, it was if these guys dropped down from another planet. They played Slavery Days, Door Peep, etc. Amazing. And the horns were hot even then! I still remember Mr. Rodney's big white high-top sneakers and neon shoe laces. Now that's an impression, ha ha!

Never found him in the subway this morning, but you guys in the Burning Band keep bubbling. NYCKomondor e-mail: mlv17@columbia.edu
