Ifs and Buts

Kats I think has hit the nail on the head. If indeed that first goal had been cleared and we took the lead we doubtless wuld have gone on to thump then. Then the headlines would have read "Brave experiment shows value" or some such nonsense. It all failed. If we had won we would be 3rd in the table I believe and everyone would have talking about Europe. All ifs and buts.Lets not judge wor BR too harshly very early days yet surely?? Still higher than our near neighbours. What we have to do is still get behind the team. I, too, am little concerned re Bobby. We all love him but his pre-match interviews are getting mor bizarre. Want him desperately to succeed though. I honestly thought Shearer had a good game and tired his damndest, Bellamy too with a modicum of luck he would have had a hatful of goals this season, but really need to button his lip. O'Brien gets better and better Given could hardly be faulted and again made some crucial saves. Dabizas looks good storming forward but dreadful storming back. Jury still out on Distin. Good in the air and quite cool with distribution but caught out in possession on accoasions. Hughes I like, but had a poor, nay shocker of a game. Robert as is stated completely out of place as a wing-back but looked so good again in the second half. Solano was very very dissapointing. Cannot understand why a player of his ability will not take a man on. He has the ball-play and trickery to get past many defenders but seems reluctant to do so and likes to x the ball at every opportunity. Cant make opinions re Speed and Acuna because although they were in the line-up didnt see them on the pitch.

At some times in the second half we played well, and had some good movements and I am sorry but the ball did not bounce for us at all. Bellamy, Shearer and Luax2 should have scored and Robert came so close which if materialized would have had a different scoreline (stating the bleeding obvious I know). All am trying to say is still some good things to come out of the game in reflection. At the time I am glad I didnt go down to Delaneys with Bud though too sad.

I predicted we would wn 5-2 so now I'll say the Toffeemen to win 3-1 and lets see what happens.

Will be in Hanoi when thats on any one join me for

Well, perhaps it looked different in person, but after watching it on the television, I didn't think we were ever in the game. The only time we came close to scoring was on Robert's corner, and you can balance that against Anderton's free kick that hit the crossbar. I thought it was a miserable performance.

We almost scored after 5 minutes. Nobby crossed and the defenders scrambled before Bellamy had a chance (to miss). We were in it until the goal!

That's another point, Kegsy: Spurs weren't Liverpool in terms of defending, we had chances.

As my Dad always told me.

it became obvious in the second half that Shearer wasn't looking to score, he was trying to be playmaker in the middle, thus recognising our ability from that role. We had no problems down the wings, Bellamy's pace gave him an advantage all day, but we had become all too predictable by that time and we were easily shut down.

It's the same after every match though in fairness.

The Boro game could so easily have went the way of the home side and we could have been murdered.

I agree about the bounce of the ball though, every time there was a tackle or deflection the ball always fell to a Spurs' players feet, which was entirely down to luck.

"If my uncle had had tits he'd have been me auntie."

That's just not true Sofite. I mean look at Dean Windass last night - he'd definitely got tits - a bloody great big belly as well.
