M-6 frame counter won't return to zero

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

My frame counter on M-6 goes back to exposure #15 but not to zero when I remove and insert a new roll of film. Is this something I can cure by myself by some simple adjustment or must I send the body to a repair person? Thanks, Lewis

You could ignore it until CLA time; unless, of course, this is the camera trying to tell you it is CLA time :-). The problem would have to be repaired by a person with the tools and knowledge.

Half way through the production of the M-6 Leica wanted to save $1.00 on each camera so they replaced an aluminum counter disc w/a plastic disc & now Leica repair people like me are for the lst time since the M-3 was produced making money repairing the M counter system. Leica came out w/a left handed threaded screw that you tighten the counter dial with so when the counter returns to zero the counter dial gets tighter- not looser but the best repair is to replace the plastic disc. w/a used metal disc. The Leica M counter used to be the best..
