In September (1849), Poe went to visit friends and relatives and to take care of some business, traveling toward New York City via Baltimore. He arrived there drunk and disappeared for a mysterious five days. He was eventually found, in a delirium, and taken to a hospital where he clung to his life for a few more days. Poe died on October 7, 1894. His last words were, “Lord help my poor soul!” In a aptly to mysterious postscript to Poe’s life, a anonymous visitor has brought three roses and a bottle of cognac to Edgar Allan Poe’s grave at Westminster Church in Baltimore. To admit I really copied this from www.neuroticpoets.com/poe/ so don’t take my credit for it!
