Favorite Places- Field Report

As many of you know, I do a lot of travel photography and I have just returned from a ten day shoot of an interesting tropical location. It is an island location and a part of French Polynesia. It is called Maupiti and is a great photo place. It ranks up there with Bora Bora, Moorea, Aitutaki etc for blatant beauty. There is a central island surrounded by an aquamarine and indigo lagoon. There are great seascapes to be had as well as local portraits. The negatives are, mosquitos, lack of water, no hotels(but there are places to stay)and difficulty in arranging lodging. Very few people speak English so it helps to speak French. This is one of the few places left in French Poly that has the old culture still intact. A fantastic place to shoot but it is not easy to get there. SR

I should add that I used Velvia, Provia 100 pushed 1 stop and Provia 400 on this trip and that the first two films worked well. The Provia 400 was a bit of a disappointment. The color saturation just was not up to the task. If a scene was not richly colored, the 400 would not render it well. For bold colors, it did OK but not even close to Provia 100 or Velvia.
