This is a war that is impossible to win

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Wild Wild West : One Thread

I understand Bush declared a war on terrorism, but there is no way we can win it completely. This war will be fought until we get the enemy down to the point where it becomes endless small battles. We can work towards removing this particular threat, but there will always be some looney-tunes that thinks they have a good reason to terrorize others.

Just look at any grade-school playground, the seeds of terrorism is rooted in their behavior. When they are allowed to behave in this manner, when it is justified as "boys will just be boys" or "this is just a stage s/he is going through", then it reinforces the mentality that causes them to act that way in the first place.

Childhood is the time when behavior can be modified to prevent a mindset causing terrorist or anti social actions as an adult.

Bin Laden took advantage of the situation in the mid-east to create terrorists. With the Afghanistan infrastructure destroyed by decades of war, the economy in shambles (the income had been dependent on our financing the war against the soviet union), with a government based on corruption and and with a mentality stuck in the dark ages, the stage was set for anyone with an evil agenda to act it out.

Bin Laden implemented long range plans to "take over the world" and rid it of the infidals-us, and anyone with beliefs other than his.

He opened schools where war orphans and the children of destitute parents were sent because they could not support them. Thousands of kids from the age of three on up were indoctrinated and brainwashed for their entire lives to become terrorists and hate us. On TV I saw a 6 year old boy in one of their schools screaming hatred against America.

With no input from the outside world, these kids have no clue of reality. After "graduating" they were sent out into the world to integrate themselves into the societies of all the countries in the world. A good portion of them are sent to institutions of higher learning.

Personally, I think a most of them were confused and dumbfounded by what they saw and experienced. It had to be a shock to their senses just to walk down a street assaulted at every turn by our form of "propaganda" (advertising) alone. Even with all their previous brainwashing, over half of them "defected" almost immediately. Think about it, they grew up in the dust with nothing but hardship. The outside world was not filled with devils intent on their extinction.

I believe our reaction to Sep-11 won one of the biggest battles we face in this war on terrorism, Bush and the majority of American citizens blamed the actual individuals responsible for the destruction, instead of mindlessly accusing an entire country or all members of the Muslim religion. This discredited the biggest claim that the Taliban and Bin Laden have used in their propaganda against us, their allegation that we want to exterminate Muslims. We pulled the rug out from under their house of cards. I think they were counting on a completely different reaction to us. They probably expected a reaction based on unthinking anger. If we had just started bombing Afghanistan indiscriminately, we would have only reinforced their propaganda.

Another thing we have in our favor is we have ours is a civilized society. It is based on truth and REAL patriotism which comes from the depth of our souls, not some allegiance shoved down our throats by a perversion of a respected and established religion, or some extremist government's dictated mandate.

Our beliefs are backed by obvious truths and a reality that we can feel, see and live.

People are thinking creatures, a captive audience can be inundated over a lifetime with propaganda, but when their own senses show them information which contradicts the hype they were fed, their minds have no choice but to evaluate it. Once one or two pieces of the propaganda is proven false, the seeds of doubt have been planted and will grow with each new contradiction.

Our enemies have already lost probably their biggest weapon, and thus a major battle in this war, the weapon is propaganda and our reaction was the battle.

The morons who blindly spout on hatefully towards and/and act out with hatred against anyone who they perceive as Muslim or middle eastern are in their blind ignorance doing exactly what Bin Ladin wants American's to do. He uses these bigoted acts against innocent people in his speeches and propaganda to reinforce their hatred towards us and to justify making more terrorist attacks.

We need to think about our actions and realize the effect they have in this war. Do we want to give millions of Afghanistan's unnecessary reasons to hate us or do we want to prove Bush is telling the truth about what he told the world about who is our enemy and who is not. He can say Muslims are not our enemy and we respect them and their religion, or we can act in a way that makes his words a lie. That is a choice each individual American citizen has to make on their own. Like Bush said, you are with us or you are with the enemy. Your actions will show who you are with. We don't need American's giving the Taliban ammunition to use against us. If you act in ways that support the enemy, you are not with us. Where then does that make you?

Afghanistans have been subjected to the Taliban's version of governing. Even when citizens are forced at the point of a gun to "join" their army (they are recruiting 12 year old boys now), their hearts and minds are not behind their "service" to the Taliban or Bin Laden and his ideals. They have no choice, if they do not join, they are killed. They are deserting in droves when the opportunity arises, those who can't, will turn on the Taliban the moment they know they have our support and are there to help them. There are even high ranking members of the Taliban army and administration that are sneaking out and giving intelligence to us.

Until now, there wasn't much point in them trying to move against the Taliban. There was little chance of surviving the attempt. As soon as word to mouth (or our own "propaganda", messages dropped explaining our backing) gets to the majority of these people, I think there will be a major uprising and every member of the Taliban and Bin Ladin's army will be will feel the wrath of and be captured or killed by the very people they have been terrorizing for years. These people have not been happy with the way the country has been taken back into the dark ages. Too many had tasted the outside world and liked it. That is one of the things that angered Bin Laden so much, he felt Muslims were being corrupted by the Western world. Working with the Taliban they outlawed TV, banned women from working and even leaving their homes without a male relative. A lot of these women were professionals, Doctors, scientists, lawyers etc.

They literally removed Afghanistan from the 20th (21st) century and tried to take it back to the 4th century.

Too many of the Muslim religion and people in the middle east have tasted the fruits of freedom and experienced civilized existence. No way they will go back to an ancient way of life. But there will always be those people who don't like these changes, kinda like the American South's resistance to integration. It takes time and patience for big societal changes to come into effect and be accepted. Basically, a generation has to die off, the next generation has to live through the changes happening, and they will be the ones who raise the generation that is born into that changed society, and accept it as a normal way of life.

Yes we have been bitch slapped, but we are quick learners.

There is no one over the age of 4 in this country that will let their guard down and ignore what is happening in the world outside of their own front door.

Terrorism can never be eliminated completly, but the is a lot we can do to fight it and and even more that we can do to prevent it from developing in the first place.

Who wrote this piece Cherri? It sure as hell wasn’t you. After all, when would you have time what with your busy flight schedules?

The notion that terorrists are seeded in any school playground is hilarious. If this were true, then entire generations of Americans, from the founding fathers on, would have been blowing up innocent civilians on a daily basis. This same system also produced far more liberals--think Kennedys, Gore, Clinton, etc.--as well as great humanitarians--Schweitzer, Schindler, for instance. It's not a great system but far more good than bad people have been produced by it. You cannot possibly seriously analogize this system to the 24/7 brainwashing of extremist Islamic schools. If that were valid, we here in the West would have a lot more women stumbling around in their own personal tents.

The idea that poor, ignorant kids are overwhelmed by Western civilization and so try to destroy it is absurd. Bin Laden is a gazillionaire's son and spent a lot of his early years living in the West. The major hijackers, who wreaked such death and destruction in NYC, DC and PA, were from relatively privileged backgrounds (compared to the ignorant slum kids mentioned above). They're the "minor" suicide bombers, sure, but they aren't the skyscraper demolishers.

There are terrorists like McVeigh and the Unabomber. Puerto Rican terrorists. Basque separatist terrorists. Irish terrorists. Filipino terrorists. Bader Meinhoff, Red Brigade, Carlos the Jackal, Columbian drug terrorists. What's their excuse? They don't like our support of Israel either? They don't like MacDonald's hamburgers? They want us out of Saudi Arabia too?

To equate southern segregationists with bin Laden is like saying a cold is a virus just like ebola is a virus. Give me an example of when segregationists ever killed as many as 6,000 at a time. Okay, I'll make it easier. A hundred. All right, then, fifty. Twenty-five? This is not to say segregationists are nice people. They're not, they're assholes. But they're not in the same league as bin Laden.

It's like roaches. You can never kill 'em all but you can keep 'em to a manageable level. Be nice if we could eradicate all of them but, as you say, it can't be done. Meantime, we can spray the shit out of 'em. You want to study roaches to find out why they like to contaminate our houses, fine. Did you know that once roaches overpopulate a house and run out of things to eat, they will get on your face when you're sleeping and nibble on your eyebrows and eyelashes, stuff like that? Maybe you can talk to them, ask 'em why they pick on you and what might make them want to stop.

Great piece, Cherri.

Lawrence, I think you misundertsood my motives. I was not comparing segrigationists to Bin Ladin, I was trying to show an example of people who fight change and show how Bin Ladin and people like him can never succeed. The same as the bullies in the playground. Our society normally frowns on their behavior which normally results in a change in their behavior, I was trying to point out how BL used this method to encourage future terrorist behavior. Also, these kids that did grow up in his schools may be influenced by him, but when they see the real world, the impact will shock the. I think reality has overcome a lot of their early training. I don't claim ther terrorists who did the damage on Sep 11 were from these schools. I'm not trying to "blame" anyone or show parrelels between them and us, I was trying to point out the faults in his system and the strengths in ours. As for segrigationists, 3 little girls in a church were three too many deaths, but there were hundreds of people murdered by bigoted hatrid. Our society may fight change at times, my Dad hated long hair in men until the day he died, but these days nobody much cares how long or short men wear their hair. But the changes usually take effect and a few generations later nobody thinks about them. Unfortunatly there are some Muslems who are aware of how far the middle east has fallen in the centuries since they the greatest country in the world and it is a thorn in their side. They yearn for ancient glories instead of trying to live in todays world. We on the other hand are not saddled with much of a history and accept change as normal.

I you did some way know why roaches nibble on your facial hair, you could take steps to prevent them doing so. You catch more flies with sugar than you do with vinager, it takes more effort to try to undo the damage of terrorism and protect ourselves from it than it does to prevent the developement of it in the first place.

-- Cherri (jessam6@home.com), October 22, 2001.

Roaches eat your eyelashes because of a primitive genetic instinct. Terrorists terrorize for the same reason. Maybe we can understand bruised psyches later. Right now, we don't have time. Unless, of course, you don't mind more mass murder and the complete breakdown of the economic and health systems. Kinda like trying to reason with a pit bull trained as a champion dogfighter. Sure you can quit breeding them but first you have to deal with those that are already out there, foaming at the mouth and snarling.

Of course anita agrees with cherri. They have all things in common

We could have won this war, but thanks to Dumbya we have blown that chance.

This was a challenge put before us by God, to see if we could finally prove to the world that violence and hatred can be eliminated without resorting to violence. We could have used our minds and hard work to bring about justice and make it impossible for evil people to terrorize others with fear.

Instead, we have done the easiest and worst possible thing. We used violence to breed more hatred, and killed innocent civilians. We have proven beyond a doubt that we are incapable of being any better than the terrorists themselves. Thanks to Dumbya and the other mental midgets who run this country, we have blown the chance that God gave us. And it might have been our last.

We could have won this war????? By being really, really, REALLY, REALLLY NICE to Osama??!!??

Up your ass dipshit.

-- libs are idiots (moreinterpretation@ugly.com), October 23, 2001.

Nope, never said anything about being nice to OBL. Why doesn't Dumbya kill or capture OBL like he says he will? Because just like his Poppy, he is a crooked motherfucking liar. He is going out of his way to make sure that OBL is left to run free, just like Saddam. It gives him an excuse to take over the region so that he and his oil tycoon buddies can reap more profits from the region.

Wake the fuck up!. Dumbya is a tool of global corporations.
