It certainly is. I hope she likes that pony I'm mailing her.

Great weekend! Tired today!

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

So tired. Hot Springs was actually not bad - there's a mile of main street that's downright pretty. Our hotel was very Great Gatsby - it was Al Capone's place back when gambling was legal.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

T - you were working on the weekend?

AB - how was Monroe?

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

I was working on the weekend. I was in late this morning though - the mouse man came out to find where the hell the sucker got into the house.

Tomorrow I'm flying into National and going to the House office buildings. I'm a risk-taker like that. I may even walk by a mailbox! Because I walk on the wild side like that.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

So, I signed up to do taht nanowrimo thing. (Write 50,000 words in 30 days.) We'll see if I actually do it.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Oh, it was just great. HL had shows on Friday night/Saturday afternoon, and I got to see a bunch of friends who were in town that I hadn't seen in a while.

We even got home early, which was cool.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Y'ALL. After reading good things about that "Riding In Cars With Boys" movie, Chris and I went to see it on Friday night.

SO BAD. We walked out about ten minutes from the end. SO BAD. Y'all, do not see this movie. I implore you. It is just terrible. Not one redeeming aspect.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Really? I saw it on Friday. I didn't think it was THAT bad.

I could've done without the parts with the grown son.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Did you actually like any of the characters?

The only one I liked was Beverly's mother. There was a lot they could have gone into, but didn't, like the way her father was compelled to do what was "right," and there was a lot that was just absurd, like Beverly's constant self-pity, and NO ONE told her to just suck it up, already. She was an awful mother and an awful, bossy person, yet by the end of the movie, we were expected to be sympathetic to her plight. She was a terrible human being!

Courtney's reading the book - she saw the movie on Saturday and was shicked at the license they took - in the book, Beverly goes to college, etc, and divorces Ray right off the bat.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Oh no, she's not likeable at all. But I did like the son, and I loved her mother. It could've been a lot better, a LOT better, but I don't think it was walk-out-of-the-theater bad.

I think it's impossible to even make a movie like that. How do you fit someone's memoirs into 2 hours? You can't.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

They did it pretty well with Bobby Kennedy's Thirteen Days memoirs, I thought.

I think they should have expanded on the mother's character and had her tell her brat daughter to suck it up and deal. Beverly never thanked anyone - she had this sense of entitelement - and that drove me crazy.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Ah, but Thirteen Days was about 13 days, not 20 years. And it was about 20 mintues longer.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Where are Al and Mike?

+1 is too slow. Anyone got a great new question?

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

I can't think of a thing.

Hey - where can I find good linen spray? I've decided that the reason I have a hard time falling asleep in hotels is because the sheets smell like hotel sheets (that, and the cable tv). I think linen spray might be the solution.

Oh, and if anyone knows anyone who works in the medical community in Lafayette, or works with a patient foundation in Lafayette, please let me know as I just found out that I need to find 20 people to go to a gala on Thursday. They told me it was in Baton Rouge, and this morning, I find out that it's actually Lafayette. Nice.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Didn't you have a nice linen spray in Spain? I have some from Bath and Body that's not bad. Cheap too. Do you take your own pillow case? Makes a huge difference.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Riding in Cars is bad? Man. The MOC will be disappointed. He's been wanting to see it.

Just sneaking in for a quick hello. I miss MATH! Waaaaah!

Origins has a good linen spray. I use it. It is called "Clean Sheets."

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Joh, in Spain I used my yummy-smelling Burt's Bees face spray as linen spray - but the scent doesn't last long with sheets, unfortunately. I think I may hit Bath & Body Works after work.

But I like the idea of the Origins Spray. Yes, indeed.

I will definitely start bringing my own pillow case.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Heeheee. Clean Sheets is also the name of an online erotic magazine. Not that I know anything about that.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Do y'all find it interesting that most of what's in the bragging thread was done by WriterGirl?

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

I find it very, very, interesting, T.

She is just about on my last nerve...and I used to like her so much! WriterGirl and I, we've just grown apart.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

WriterGirl and I, we've just grown apart.

It must be the distance.

And did y'all read about when she listed the Smoker's reasons for not watning to move to NYC? Number 2 out of 3? Gun laws. Y'all!

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

So, what I had did was, I had been emailing with the MOC about certain things, and we were on the subject of wedding budgets and spreadsheets and the like, and what he had did was, he had wondered about budgeting for HIS wedding. He had.

All I'm saying is that it's interesting, is all. And that's all.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

I feel that the Smoker is a shady character.

Y'all! This just in: Tracy and Omar visiting Chao House, this coming weekend! The unemployed and vacationing can always find a party in the ARL.

Man. Now I have to be all Cleany McSweepup.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Ooh, T! What a development. Anything else of interest the MOC might have mentioned?

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

No, just that like me, he was wondering about wedding money and good ways to save.

But anyway. This is definitely not my business, so I'll be quiet now.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

ooh AB, what are y'all going to do?

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Drink.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Why did I need to ask?

Are they driving up together?

Oh, and when do we get your journalcon recap, Missy?

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Y'all. I just accidentally bit into a banana nut bagel. So sad. All I have eaten today is a chocolate croissant and a blueberry bagel. No way to live.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Yeah, they're driving in on Thursday and leaving Saturday. Fun! I don't know where one of them is going to sleep, because Bad Joey Chao took one of the beds.

I am almost through with my update. I am! Promise! I'll probably upload it tonight.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Is Joey Chao living wiht y'all again?

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

No, he got an apartment, thank the Lord. He needed the bed in the middle room, so we let him take it. But now I have no guest bed! Sadness. I do believe Omar will be on the floor.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Omar should be so lucky as to get the Chao floor.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

T - you're right, that is no way to live. Get thee some food in your belly!

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

You're damn right, H. That is the message that I shall convey, too.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Fine! L_L me!

Y'all are mean.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Not mean, just going crazy trying to find 20 people to go to this dumb event, the organizer of which is both flaky and irresponsible.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

I done had to go pee, fool!

How's the job? Do you still like it? What does Mad Mad do after skool?

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

I do still like it. It is very easy and good. And they like me, which is even better.

Mad just hangs out by herself after school, until we get home. She walks there. It's only a few miles.

Just joke! She goes to the rec center, right next door to her school. They're very nice, and she does her homework there--that's my favorite part.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

I like to imagine Mad Mad all walking home and by now her big bow is crooked.

Will this day never END?

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

I feel same way! Only 3:30!

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

And nobody's updated! (Myself included.) Keep waiting for Jessamyn's recap. Oh, and YOURS.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Jessie is not finished recapping, either. She is bad, bad girl.

I think Rob updated, though, and Erin (ejshea.com), and that guy Jared (www.htbt.org), and Jen Wade (tight-science.com). So lots of new JCon reading material!

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Rob's was good.

Look at Sara's high school boyfriend! All little and cute with Han Solo.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

People? Have you gone home?

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

No. I am here. In Lafayette hell. So sad, my headache is.

And I'm supposed to be going to a meeting Longworth tomorrow afternoon, and a reception in Rayburn tomorrow night, but dammit, they need to decide if they're going to open the damn House Office Buildings tomorrow, at least before I get on the plane to DC.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

I didn't think the House buildings ever closed? Just the Senate?

And how lovely that 2 DC postal workers are dead and 2 more have the anthrax.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

I'm home.

Tomorrow, I have to go to the World Congress Center to the American Public Health Association convention. I will surely get Anthraxed.

Are y'all still here?

What's all this about the MOC getting married? Heeeee. Makes me smile. Mysterious Chicken and Cheese, that's who y'all are.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Hee! The sneaky MOC. He is starting a mental wedding spreadsheet, I think.

Nope, all the House and Senate buildings are closed.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

He IS sneaky. Something is up in his cheesy brain.
