Rewind cranks for M2 / M3

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I'm searching for a rewind crank for my M2, any suggestions ? The site of Richard Wasserman is gone - he used to sell them for 35$/ea. Is there any other possibility of getting these cranks somewhere ? I'm also interested in user feedbacks.

Thanks - Kai

I have two and they are sitting among my pile of unused photo stuff. While the workmanship is extremely good I find it not terribly user friendly. The crank is always snagging on something and you have to be extra careful when rewinding and collapsing the device else you will have a scratch camera top.

And you could lose an eye on the way...

...and rewind knobs of M3/2 are not such a bad thing, I would opt for it on my M4Pīs any time.

As far as the rewind crank for the M2/M3 they will let you rewind slightly faster than with just the plain rewind knob. But anybody using one should know that with the rewind crank they place substantially more torque on the rewind stem with the danger of breaking the stem. So the way to rewind with a crank installed is to place a finger, with tension, on the stem as you rewind, this steadies the stem from wobbling and eventualy breaking. I do not use the crank on my M2 and M3 as the difference in rewind time is negligible.

It needn't be a rewind knob from Richard Wasserman: They feature quite a nice collection from Tom Abrahamsson on the cameraquest-site - also ones with foldable cranks. It is just that I wanted to give it a try - these look quite convenient on the pictures. Ray or anyone who doesn't use his, if yours are just lying around, would you sell on of these ?

These levers are fine, but noone sells them ;-). This was the site which tempted me to ask the above question - but even Tom Abrahamsson has none for sale (and the pics show his collection).
