I just finished reading a book called "the new birth order book" by Dr. kevin leman and he says that middle children tend to look up to their next older sibling and modle of of them. If the sibling is able to be matched for skills then the child may try and pull a role reversal- middle to firstborn- If the firstborn is superiour then the child may look out side of the family for attention. They may feel negative because they are getting artificial attention, or shallow attention and love that only a family can produce

This is not an answer to Miss. Henshaws question, but a request for like responses. I am interested in researching the birth order question, and how it relates to educational outlook and performance. If anyone has any ideas about where to locate research articles on this topic i would be very interested to get an email from them at aec35@cam.ac.uk.
