Wadsworth sacked already

Been given the Spanish Archer along with his boss Stuart Gray. Not that I'm laughing at his misfortune...much.

Best not laugh too hard ... we might get him back.

Yes, but will Bobby want him back at Newcastle?

Frankly, I think BR would be well advised to think long and hard about that particular decision!

I woke up in a cold sweat this morning thinking of him coming back to the club....

I you sure you didn't wet the bed Gav, not that I'm speaking from experience or ought (c;

We were shite - Wadsworth left - we're still shite. Therefore...

That's a bit harsh Nick, we're devastating against 10 men...

...when playing in Greater Manchester...sometimes

ps - and before you start, Bolton is not in Lancashire (any more). All got changed a while back

Sorry, lads and lasses, but we aren't in reality doing any better than last season and we can't blame Wadsworth for tactics any more.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

But our player signing have improved immensely.

Erm, excuse me, but isn't our chief scout Charlie Woods? Isn't it true that he comes to us from Tottenham who looked at Cordone and Bassedas (as well as Robert and Distin)? This blaming Wadsworth for signings is a bit exaggerated IMHO.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

Remember that Bassedas turned down bids from Lazio and Roma to join us as he wanted to play in England. I think we've just been unlucky, he is still very highly rated in South America.

-- Anonymous, October 22, 2001

..... oh aye, I forgot about Cordone - please add him to my previous list.

You're quite correct dougal, of course. There is a common demoninator in turning the recommendations of both Charlie Woods and Wadsworth into real investments for the Club - Bobby Robson.

Clarky, I agree, with Wadsworth, he was our coach during Bobby's first season here and we performed miracles, particularly at home, so you do have to ask whether everything that has been blamed on Wadsworth is his fault. Maybe losing Steve Clarke was more telling than we thought? Wadsworth came to us with an awful reputation as a manager but a reputation second to none as a coach. He looked a miserable get and there were reports from the training ground that he had a poor relationship with certain players, but these are actually things for the manager to deal with.

That season was all about everyone being fitter than they'd ever been before after the much-maligned Gullit pre-season. The benefits showed up over Christmas and New Year when our shower had 15minutes more running than anyone we came up against bar Arsenal. The next season we pissed off to the States and carefully avoided anything that looked like hard work whilst "wrapping our stars in cotton wool" all of whom ended up injured for months as a result. the Inter Toto at least ensured that 20 of them are a bit fitter this season.

Actually, Softie, I think you're right. Another factor was beinbg in the UEFA until about Christmas - we'd have a crap midweek game that we just won and be sorted by Sunday.

Hopefully Bobby can prove us all wrong and make a big comeback with a good run of form instead of our usual win / lose / win / lose.

I remember last season around the time of the away win on Smogside that we were shit at home and pretty good away, it seems the same at the moment unfortunately.

However, if we miss out on Europe to Spurs by one point then everyone knows which match we'll look back at.
