What to check on a s/hand enlarger

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Printing & Finishing : One Thread

Hello again, I have a chance to buy a s/hand DurstM370 enlarger, but will have to send my son who lives in the city to check it out for me. Is there anything particular that I should ask him to check? Also thank you to Sam Smith for putting the terrific link to a very basic beginners printing page. It will save me driving you crazy with losts of questions that you have all answered a hundred times before. Many thanks.

Since the M370 isn't a current model you need to make sure all parts and accessories you may want to use are present; this includes appropriate lensboards for any lenses plus of course a lens itself if the enlarger is being sold that way. Also needed will be the appropriate condenser sets (if it's a condenser enlarger) and neg carriers or inserts for any formats you may use.

Parts and accessories for current enlargers may or may not fit; don't assume that a missing part or accessory will be easy to obtain.

If you don't know what parts are needed for the formats you intend to use, now or in the future, or know if you can obtain them, ask the folks at Jobo at Tech@Jobo-USA.Com.
