Tech Pan and Dixactol - feedback

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

I recently asked a question about processing TP120 in dixactol and thought I would give some feedback after experimenting and some excellent advice directly from Barry Thornton.

I have tried both 35mm and 120 now in recommended dixactol one bath and with modified development based on information from Barry. Results with standard one bath development were good but inconsistent with some of the usual problems with unexpected UFOs with TP development. However I have now been using modified dilution and time as recommended by Barry with partial stand and the results are stunning and with no UFOs. The negatives are beautifully graded and have good acutance. I followed Barry's recommendation for both EI and development technique/times. TP 120 was rated at EI 40. Dilution was 1 part solution A to 14 parts solution B to 600 parts water. Development time of 9 minutes at 24C. Partial stand technique with 1 min continuous agitation and then 5 sec agitation every 2 minutes.

Worth a try if you like TP and have been frustrated by difficulties with development....
