Mirror Shift on Elan 7e

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I just got back from a trip to Savannah where I began noticing an image shift in the viewfinder. After I finished the roll, I unloaded the camera and took off the lens to take a look. I found the culprit. A fraction of a second after the mirror returns to the "down" position, it shifts abruptly counterclockwise a degree or two in its housing. My suspicion is that the mirror is loose in the housing and comes out of position on the way up and then slips back into position on the way down. Any other ideas about what might have caused it? I just got the photos back and it had no effect on the photos. Has anyone else experieiced a similar problem? I bought the camera in April and I've probably run 110 to 120 rolls through it. Just thought I would share the experience. It's still under warranty, so I'm sending it back to Canon this week to get it fixed.

I had the same problem years ago with a 620 and have heard from tec reps that this is a common problem throughout the Elan line. Way back then I switched to Nikon and now I'm back to using Canon. Sounds like you were very lucky that your pictures were not effected Iwasn't so lucky and ruined a job. No offence by I hope your camera was just an exception and that Canon actually fixed the problem. IMHO if you are running that many rolls of film you might want to upgrade to the EOS 3
