Lolo's back and still talking

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Lolo is back in Toon and gave an interview on Friday.

1. You had to go to Réunion at the start of the week for personal reasons and you came back to Newcastle on Wednesday. Did you start training immediately?

Yes, I trained yesterday morning. In fact, all the other players had the day off and I had a training session with the fitness trainer. It went well. This morning we all trained together in preparation for the match on Sunday against Tottenham. I'm in the squad, as usual.

2. With the problems you've had are you ready to play football.

Yes, things are going better. On the field it's possible to forget a little of things going on outside of football. I do my job even though the death of my grandfather affected me.

3. How do you see Sunday's match against Tottenham?

It's necessary to win. We should continue our good series of results to make sure that the teams ahead of us don't get away. We need to win at home.

4. This week, there was a little problem with Robert Lee, who wanted to be transferred, but the club rejected his demand. Why does he want to leave?

He had a good offer from another club, but he is still an emblematic player and a key part of the team. So the club has put everything in place to retain him.

5. Arsène Wenger has started a petition for the match between France and Australia so that if any of his players are selected they won't have to go. What is your opinion on this?

It's true that the calendar is crowded in England and I can understand the attitude of Arsenal with respect to the long journey. But on the other side, it is a very difficult decision for a player to refuse to play for France. Personally, if I get selected, I'll go.

6. Did you see PSG's match yesterday in the UEFA Cup against Rapid Vienna?

They played very well. The Austrians were afraid. It's good to have scored four goals without conceding any, so the return match will be easy. See you later.

A possibility for the Aussie fans to see Lolo live?

Thanks KT.

VERY interesting revelation that Rob Lee has "had a good offer from another club".

This is entirely contradictory to what has been stated officially, and would make his transfer request much more understandable. If true, of course, this would be a very clear case of one of our contracted players having been 'tapped up' - a situation the Club should be vigourously pursuing through legal channels.

Yeah I spotted that one too Clarky. How long before the club steps in to stop these interviews from revealing too much - like they did last season denying Cordone, Bassedas and Acuna from doing press interviews in their first season at the club.

Was it just a slip / bad piece of translation, or has Rob Lee been tapped up?

Rob denied having heard a word from any other clubs which may suggest a certain disingenuousness on his part, too.

If the Rob Lee thing is true it would slot him into the "mercenary" category. What ever happened to loyalty?

Not sure I'd put Lee in the mercenary category if he did get a lucrative offer from another club. He is near the end of his career so I don't begrudge him trying to settle his future for the next couple of seasons sooner rather than later. The fact that he hasn't completely spat his dummy refusing to see out his contract shows he's still a good professional. Mind, I still think it was foolish of him to go public with his transfer request and that did tarnish him a bit in my eyes.
