Anyone own a Lopi brand of woodstove?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

We are considering a purchase of a woodstove this next week and I would like to know if anyone has used a Lopi brand of woodstove? It retails for around $1200. However we have known the owner of the store and he is very reputable and has been in business for years and would back his products. Some friends of ours have a Quadrafire and really like theirs, but they live in a mobile home. Your thoughts? Ron in Eastern Washington

I have a LOPI,, patriot model,, kinda small,, no grate, catalytic, but boy does it heat the house up, Works great,, kinda forgiving on the type of wood also

We also have a LOPI stove. It has been worth every penny we paid for it. We love it and if we ever build again I would want another one. Our dealer has also been in business for years and has a very good reputation. I was worried that the stove had no ash pan like most I had used before. But the LOPI burns the wood so much more completely that you don't need the ash pan. We only clean ours out ever few days. With our old stove we were dumping the ash pan daily and going through much more wood. If you get one I think you will love it.

Ron, we have a Lopi "Freedom" insert. We have had other brands of various types off and on for ~20 years and think Lopi is the best. More expensive, but worth it.

Thank you so much for answering my question. The model that we are considering is the Endeavor. However we are weighing out the advantages of going a step up to the Liberty. Susan, what model are you using? Does it hold a fire overnight?

Ron, I don't remember the name of our model. We have had it 10 years. Hubby can't remember either. I did find a model number on the back, maybe it will help. Model 380.96 is what it says. Hubby says it is one of the smallest freestanding stoves they had. Heats our house nice. It does hold a fire all night if you fill it before going to bed. And does better at holding if there are some ashes built up just a little in the bottom. Helps to hold the coals with smaller fires. I hope this helps.

Lopi is best in my opinion. Have owned two . I have been a woodstove technician , working on 6 different brands of stoves and Lopi is not only a great product , the company really stands behind their stoves, although that is rarely necessary.

Our friends who live in an off-the-grid cabin have a Lopi although I don't remember the model. They are trying to sell it to us so that they can buy a soapstone one. We haven't bitten yet.

Sandy, What is the advantage of a soapstone woodstove? I have never heard of such a stove. Do your friends live in Washington State? Ron in Eastern Washington

David: Thanks so much for the reply. For the record we purchased a new Lopi woodstove, model name Liberty the end of December, just in time for Christmas. We are very pleased and consider it well worth the money.
