Gurneys Gone? Plus address for Shumways?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

In a report on AgDay this morning I heard a passing reference to the "now defunct Gurney's Seeds". Since I have ordered from them for years (as did Dad and Grandpop) I was unhappy to hear this! I checked websites for both Gurney's and Henry Field's and on both got a "Forbidden Access" page. Anybody know what happened to them?

Since I guess I won't be ordering from them next year, does anyone have an address for Shumway Seeds? I didn't get a catalog from them last year for some reason and they don't appear to have a website.

Hah! Marcia, you kill me! Alf's human name was Gordon Shumway. I loved that show, and the cartoon was even better. :)

I read that Michigan Bulb was gone too (and not returning checks!)

We've always been happy with Jungs (1-800-247-5864, jungseed.com).

Next year we're going with Morgan County Wholesale - bulk seed and more at incredible prices, with a leaning toward untreated seed. 1- 573-378-2655.

Cass--If you live in the northern half of the country, I highly recommend Fedco Seeds in Maine. www.fedcoseeds.com. This is a seed cooperative, and have incredible variety and prices, and many, many heirlooms. The catalog is $2, but they send me the catalog every year after only paying once. -Vicki

Cass, go to Countryside forum; achives; Orchards: "Stark Bros. Nursery is coming back."

There is an address and phone number within this thread of the company that purchased some of the businesses when Foster and Gallager filed for bankruptcy; they may or may not be able to tell you about your Gurney's order.

Can't help with the Shumway addy, have you tried typing them into search at google.com? What kind of stuff are you wanting to order?

PS: Did y'all recover from the other night?!

Okay, spill! What happened the other night? Is it juicy gossip? Entertaining stories? What? ;-)

I'm wonderin' the same thing, Joy. I was too "chicken" to ask though!!

Oh, yeah, we've recovered...but I have a bald spot now where the lampshade wouldn't come off...(giggle) =)

Cass, and how did the lampshade get "there"?? Oh yeah...how 'bout Vesey's Seeds? I've ordered from them regularly for years and am very happy with them.
