I'm not a raving do gooder sewpa, but I am getting fed up with all the 'gags' about terrorists and stuff. That New York thing is going to stay with a lot of people for a long, long time. I know there such are such things as gallows humour and black humour and all the rest of it, but until some sort of resolution is realized in this whole Bin Laden business then I can't laugh at it.

Now Sunderland I can laugh at all day long ;)

sk, is that url pointing to the Day-O bin laden song? The one that got the dj for Century somewhere inthe Midlands fired? (gotta save my obvious lazy web surfing til I get home, so can't check it out right now ;-) ). That song was written by a couple of Baltimore djs, who were chuffed to find it had spread overseas. They tried calling the station, but the station hung up on them.

For me, humour is the only thing keeping me sane through all this. There's been a ton of binliner and taliban humour over here. I guess if we can't personally kick the barstewards we can at leat make them look as silly as possible? Though I do have a personal fine line between what's funny and waht's tasteless. A line that tends to waver with my mood.;-) Each person has their own way of coping.

"Err excuse me but that is fucking disgraceful. The death of 6000 innocent people is NOT a laughing matter for fucks sake! The comment about ready steady cook is unbelievable. Are you really a human?"

Err excuse me but either 18 days makes a hell of a difference or there is a big whiff of double standards being operated. Which is it then?

Cheers Geordie - you saved me trawling through all those posts to find that!

it's not surprising Islamics find the west as obnoxious as we mock about the destruction & thousands of innocent afghan lives & creating a humanitarian disaster yet cry foul at the killing of 5000 innocent US lives. It would appear we value US lives above Afghan lives.

"We"? I've racked my memory but I can't remember doing that - does that make me Islamic?

I've never supported the military action but I'm sure the Afghans think "WE" are attacking "them". I wasn't implicating the BBS members where we have had discussed Sept 11 and the right reaction and none of us (football thugs) thought the best thing to day was to bomb innocent lives. Yet still, "we" are associated with the rest of the western world as far as the Islamic leaders are concerned.

"...I can't remember doing that - does that make me Islamic?"

Well, Softie, a handy checklist includes: do you pray 5 times a day?; do you find yourself drawn to Mecca (not the bingo halls)?; do you always say peace be upon him whenever you mention Mohammed' name? etc... ;-)

Anyway, best thing I've seen recently about all this was on 2-D TV...'Talibanies' (i.e Telly-Tubbies)

As far as making jokes out of human disaster goes, at school I certainly remember telling and hearing plenty of Ethiopian jokes during the 1980s famine or Space Shuttle disaster etc. You can't justify it, so don't expect me to make excuses, but it was funny. The thing about the Bin-Laden / hijacking thing is that it's a taboo area at the moment...give it time and the jokes will return. I generally believe most things are legitimate targets for humour, the question is whether one finds it funny or not.

There's a certain amount of the Diana hypocrisy going around (not on here, I hasten to add) whereby everyone suddenly takes the moral high ground, but slowly and surely the true feelings rise to the surface (such as Diana was a manipulative user with a borderline personality disorder with a penchance for shagging squaddies and rugby players).
