Ahem 2-2. Ruud boy scores!

Pretty good end to an average first half, RVN's second was a mint goal.

Manure got quite lucky on both their goals though, the first one came from a Giggs run that started from a bobble and the second was from a Beckham "pass" that bounced off his inner leg and through the Deportivo defence.

Man Utd have a great team, shame about the fans like.

5th goal was another comedy classic. Barthez lucky to stay on pitch after doing a Jaaskelainen.

At one point in the game Alan Green on Radio 5 suddenly burst out laughing - he said he'd suddenly remembered that Lauren Blanc had been acquired to improve Manure's defence! Another great comedy moment to go alongside the two Barthez classics.

One final comedy moment provided by one of ESPN's announcers signing off by announcing the final score as "Manchester City 2, Deportivo 3".

You can always tell when they've f**ked it up: Desmond Lynam refers to them as "Manchester United" and "they" instead of "Yewnighted" or "we".

As has been noted on this bbs, ITV we're moistening Alex Ferguson's and his side's metaphorical sphincter for most of the match. Plugging their saturday show with details of which side's going to be given main highlights...again. Sickening, but laughable when both slither slowly but helplessly down the same pan.

........ frankly, I'd like to see ITV's PL Show boycotted by all but manure fans - then they might finally see which side their bread is truly buttered on. As well as which it is utter cr@p.

Weren't Deportiva good though. Diego Tristan looked a gem, + their midfield's passing + movement often left Keane + Veron floundering as to who they were supposed to pick-up. Worthy winners even without the aid of comedy defending.

I can never understand the way coverage is sorted out, If you’re a Manure fan you’d go to the game as it’s at home. Much better to show the away game as only the lucky/committed get to go. So why not Show Celtic’s game yesterday (& I’m no lover of Celtic) & Manure’s when they are away? Instead we get ITV, BBC radio & talk crap radio all blanket covering the Manure game.

You've a point but Celtic are a in a different country.... ;))

You make a very valid point Stevo - Deportivo were truly oustanding.

To be fair to Man U, Taggart for once didn't make any excuses, or even blame one or two of his own players - and he actually said how good Deportivo were. How much more statesmanlike he sounds when he talks like this - and he can still blast Barthez in private for being such a clown.

a politician plans for the next election, a statesman plans for the next generation...

on TRISTAN i pointed him out on a new thread a day ot two ago. Great player, outshing Djahlminha (some thing) also look out for Luque of Majoorcaaahh, top player

The thing is Clarky, Taggart is no longer under pressure to do well as he was in the past. He is out to enjoy his last year and possibly doesn't care as much as he did previously. He is leaving the next manager a team which is just past it's peak, with a lot of the main players over 26.

It this had been in the season when they won the CL, I am sure Taggart would have found someone to blame, be it the referee, the away fans or Kevin Keegan.

..... it's just that it was so out of character Paul, that it took me by surprise.
You may be right, but I really think he desperately wants to win the EC this year before hanging up his whinging jowels.

Yeah, you're right it was completely out of character, I think he's been a little bit like that all season.

However, I can remember him giving us a fair amount of credit last season when we drew 1-1, he said that we were unlucky not to win the game in the end.

I can't see them not coming at least second in their group though, even though the sound of Manure in the UEFA cup is something which I find hilarious.

...and why not the Intertoto Cup?
