Rectangular Leica Hoods

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Hi

I was wondering if can you use the a version of the modern Leica rectangular lens hood on the pre aspheric 35 Summilux as opposed to using the #12504 hood. And if you can... could you tell me the model number of that type of shade. Thank you.

Sincerely

Erik

Erik; I donīt think you could; because the 35/1.4 preasph doesnīt have a slot so the square hood can lock, regular 12504 works fine but if you wanna try per-asph 35/2īs hood is 12524.

Share your experience in case you try with the square hood.

Good luck

Erik, if you are worried about the standard 35/2 hood not offering enough protection then you can use the 12585 made for the 50/2. The 12585 (and similar counterparts) will work on the 35/2 with no vignetting.

I know this wasn't your question, but to anyone else reading, be careful using the round slotted hoods such as 12585 and its plastic successor on 35/2 lenses, as suggested above. It works on earlier 35/2 versions, but vignettes the last pre-ASPH 35/2. I know this from personal experience! That lens requires the rectangular hood.
