Oh, and we might have gotten The Anthrax (downstairs, not in dot-com).

"At USA TODAY headquarters in Arlington, Va., the Life department newsroom was evacuated after a reporter partially opened an envelope with no return address and thought she saw a grainy substance inside. The FBI took the envelope for testing.

Why you would send anthrax to our life section, I have no idea. We'll see. I tend to agree with T that everyone's all panicky now and we need to just chill. But I'm sure I'll feel differently if, you know, I actually get biologically terrorized.

(It would be something to write an entry about, though).

Anyway, don't worry. I'm just posting this because I'm off until Thursday night and didn't want y'all wondering where I was if you saw that story on the news.

Mike! Well, you let us know. At least you're not in the office. Didn't they evacuate the Senate office buildings to clean out the ventilation system?

It's really more of a nuisance than anything. Anthrax - Annoying as Hell.

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

They evacuated a wind of the buildng that shares an air duct with Daschle's office.

Mike, why did she open an unmarked envelope? I imagine it's nothing, though, I hope. If not, get thee some Cipro!

Come ON - L_L at only 10 a.m.?

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

Poor T.

Y'all, I think the tiredness I had Monday and Tuesday got sick of hanging out with me. I'm so wired. Why?

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

Because you're so adorable?

Y'all, I'm all for flying the flag, buying flags - whatever. But I am sick to death of those annoying popul explorer windows that ask me if I want to buy a flag. Or an X-10 hidden camera. Or whatever. They make my crappy computer run even slooooooooower.

I will be so happy when I can formally return to the world of MATH and not have to sneak in every little while to say hello. Of course, I'm getting actual work done in the meantime, which I suppose is a good thing.

Why can't someone pay us to sit around and blab all day?

Well, the MOC and I cruised across the stree to Uncle Julio's to eat last night and came home all full of cheese.

I think he is worried about my birthday, which he shouldn't be. I sense concern and I am trying to subtlely tell him not to worry about it.

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

(How do you spell "subtle-ly?" Is it subtly? IS IT?!)

That being said, I think he actually WANTS to worry about it, which is nice.

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

Allison - he IS worried, and I've tried telling him that there's no need for him to, that everything will be birthday-riffic. Sweet MOC.

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

subtle, subtly, subtlety.

That word clazy!

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

y'all, how awful about terribly happy. That SUCKS. Must remember to reregister hannahbeth.com in January!

Kimi's in the forum. That made my day!

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

And he has to pay them to get it back. That's crazy!

In other news, I'm really hungry.

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

That terriblyhappy thing is some crazy ass shit, people.

MATH board is quiet today.

We got the last Mademoiselle today. So sad. Goobye Mademoiselle. But it's their Engagement issue.

Evidently, according to DeBeer's "two month salary" thing an 18-25 y.o. would spend around 6, 250 for a ring, but the average expenditure is 2,100 which seems a LOT more reasonable to me.

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

The two month's salary thing is a huge crock. Anyway.

I didn't know Mademoiselle was going away. I do know that the last year's format - Millie, or whatever - totally sucked ass.

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

Oh, they dropped that Millie shit after the first few issues. Lately, it's been MUCH better. For the past few issues I've preferred it over Glamour. But now all Mdme subscribers will get Glamour. Shame, really.

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

I don't mind Glamour - I love the do's and don't section. Did they lose that many subscribers? I can see why the whole "me years" thing didn't fly, though. Oh well.

The whole DC anthrax thing is bizarre. I just sent an email to a staffer I've been working with for the past few weeks:

I will be out of the office from Wednesday afternoon, October 17 until Tuesday morning, October 23rd. The Capitol Hill Complex has been closed for an anthrax sweep of all buildings. If you need to reach me, please call my voicemail at 202-225-0112. I will be checking my messages frequently and will be able to call you back promptly. Thank you.

Not the kind of email you expect to receive from CONGRESS, you know?

Oh, that's weird.

Y'all, I still haven't updated. It's terrible. Terribly terrible. But Dana's entry was the best one I've read so far, and she didn't even say anything.

Well, nothin' 'cept Eatin' ain't Cheatin'. 'Cause it ain't, y'all! It aaaaaain't!

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

Okay, see, I'm a naive girl. When you say "eatin' ain't cheatin'" do you mean "eatin'" in a carpet munching kind of way? Because if that's what you mean, it so is.

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

Oh, yeah, it so is. But it's just, how funny is that statement?

Very funny. Hella funny, as the kids are saying these days.

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

It's mad funny, it is. Because you know that somewhere, some nasty redneck has come crawling back to his common-law wife to plead, "But honey! You know that eatin ain't cheatin!"

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

If last year was so bad, I wonder why she and Rob went again? Because of Jessamyn?

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

Rob went because Jessie asked him to be on a panel. Dana went because everybody bugged the shit out of her until she gave in. I think after she said she was going, then Jessie asked her to be on the panel w/Rob.

I need coffee. Coffee! My wiredness has worn off.

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

Just don't drink it really fast like I did yesterday becaues I felt like my eyes were gonna bug out.

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

I'm the dumbest girl in the land. I just walked over to Corner Bakery to get a coffee.

I get there? No money. Gah!

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

Do you have your coffee now? Do you? Huh?

I'm sleepy and ready for my home.

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

I'm sleepy, but that's because I've been working in Excel for an hour.

Chris just called me to tell me that we're going to some movie with our bickering friends tonight. I have no idea what movie, though...

Except I do. Thanks, Vindigo! We're going to see "Down From The Mountain," the making of the "Oh Brother..." soundtrack. That should be pretty cool. I'm guessing we're going to hit the 7:15 show.

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

I heard about that. Tell me how it is.

Who are the bickering friends?

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2001

Josh and Liz. I love them - Allison and the MOC have met them at our house. The thing is, though, they bicker constantly. Over everything. Very annoying, especially if you're in a car with them for four hours.
