favorite "indulgence" foods

On a lighter note, is there any food that you'd eat all the time if you didn't have to worry about fat, cholesterol, sugar, etc? Mine would be homemade chocolate chip cookies (or just the chocolate chips by themselves!) and caramel popcorn.

Homemade biscuits made with lots of real butter and spread with local honey! Yum!

Hey Christina ! Come on now ! "on a lighter note" ??? you must mean "on a heavier note" !! Let's not all be putting thoughts of pigging out in our heads in the middle of October. Why, by next May we'd all be chubby cardiac cases. Get out those snowshoes and get the bindings repaired...get those cross country skis waxed up ! Hop on that Aire-Dyne for an hour ! Get those leaves raked! Get that garden spaded up ! get up a real sweat ! Get down to walmart& buy those chocolate chips ! (4 bags for 5 bucks ! ) ! OOOOOOPS !!!!!!!

Pizza and home-made bread. Unfortunately -- or perhaps fortunately! - - I have celiac disease and can't eat either one anymore, though I can make a close approximation of a decent pizza with gluten-free flours. Real bread is almost impossible.

Mu shu chicken, ethnic food ;) and especially the 'pancake-like egg- kim che' mix that is sold in Pittsburgh's Strip District hot off the grill. Man that stuff is good! And fresh too. Fresh biscotti, real butter, clotted cream and pie. Real sour cream, whole milk cheeses, lox, oysters, and olives. Sushi.

Boy, am I hungry now. Tomorrow I plan on making wonton soup.

Vietnamese Pho -- the real stuff! Sushi, satay, popodums and broccoli with cheese sauce. Cherry cheesecake (my mom's recipe) for dessert.

-- dale (dgarr@fidnet.com), October 16, 2001.

I don't know about eating something all the time, but sometimes I am so hungry I could eat the south bound end out of a north bound Moose. Does that count???

-- Glenn (gj_usa1@yahoo.com), October 17, 2001.

fried potatoes smothered in cream gravy. Cheesecake. Steamed veggies covered in melted sharp cheddar cheese. Homemade bread. And I have a real weakness for red licorice.

-- Jenny (auntjenny6@aol.com), October 17, 2001.

I love home cooked food. Midwest basics like roast beef and potatoes are great. As for deserts, I'll take anything my Mom makes herself. She's 82 and doesn't do as much as she'd like so it's more of a treat now than ever. My three favorites are her pumpkin pie with whipped cream, Toll House cookies and her chocolate fudge. I swear I have to remind myself to stop when any of those are around.

Just what they serve in Heaven: chicken fried gizzards and fried okra.

I sat here, trying to think of my favorite indulgence food and it's really difficult! I LOVE food! I'd say it is pork, most any cut of it.

Anything chocolate! For that matter, anything sweet!!

Artichoke hearts...no-bake cookies...fried green tomatos, and portabella mushrooms sauteed in olive oil with soy sauce. Not all at once!

-- Shannon at Grateful Acres Animal Sanctuary (gratacres@aol.com), October 17, 2001.

Chocolate. POTATO CHIPS, especially smoky bacon. Chocolate. Spaghetti. Chocolate. Pizza. Chocolate. Lasagna. Chocolate. Brie cheese. Chocolate. Camembert cheese. Chocolate. Smoked salmon. Chocolate. Those little pastries stuffed with brie cheese, served warm. Chocolate. FRENCH FRIES. Chocolate covered almonds. T-bone steak...barbecued til it's JUST done...with a baked potato, LOTS of butter and sour cream, and slices of a ripe, fresh tomato. Chocolate. Beef stew, heavy on the beef chunks, cooked on my woodstove downstairs. Chocolate. Mom's apfel struedel and stollen. Chocolate cream cheese brownies. Potato pancakes. Chocolate. Bacon and scrambled eggs....LOTS of bacon. Oh...and did I mention chocolate? ;-)

Geez...can ya tell I like to EAT??? Maybe that explains that "little tire" around my waistline!

Ice Cream Drinks! like creme de cocoa, kaluah, ice cream, chocolate syrup, all whipped up in the blender and topped with whipped cream and a big maraschino cherry!

-- Rose Marie Wild (wintersongfarm@yahoo.com), October 17, 2001.

O.K. - Please don't hate me, but I eat anything and everything I like and want. I'm a BIG sweets fan and chocolate (of course) is one of my very favorites. Loaded baked potatoes (and potatoes prepared in an array of fashions), pastries, donuts, pies, cakes, cookies, and BREADS of all sorts. Just LOVE the stuff. Am a size 5/6 now but could probably be smaller if I worked at it a little. Not too bad though considering I was a size 3 when I married 21 years ago and have had three kids. Have never had to watch my weight but I should watch my nurtition content - but that's no fun. :o)

Brie cheese, french bread, chocolate, artichokes, peaches, concord grapes.

-- Rebekah (daniel1@itss.net), October 17, 2001.

Oh, can't forget, just ONCE I would like to sit down and eat half a loaf of bread just out of the oven with lots of butter, instead of just one piece like I usually do now.

Homemade cheesecake , dripping in cherry sauce.

Sweet potato pie with unlimited real whiped cream.

-- VickiP. (countrymous@webtv.net), October 17, 2001.

ok, I saw this string, and said... time to post that cookie recipe. So I created a separate string, just to make sure it would be easy to find it later if anyone came back looking for it.

That recipe is the reason I am angry at the bathroom scales at the moment.

Tender roast beef smothered in gravy, croissants, smoked salmon, cherry cheesecake, lasagna, yorkshire pudding, beef stew, biscuits with honey, steamed broccoli, welsh cakes, cinnamon buns, nanaimo bars, apple crisp, chili, burritos....yeah. That's some of it. :)

-- Rebekah in Canada (rebekah_swinden@hotmail.com), October 17, 2001.

Foie gras on toast points. caviar. baked fresh ham with gravy and a small mountain of mashed potato. cheddar cheese. foie gras on toast points, for which I substitute chicken liver, unless someone else is buying!

-- Kathy (catfish201@hotmail.com), October 17, 2001.

I forgot pickled okra. I could eat them until I puke.

-- Jenny (auntjenny6@aol.com), October 18, 2001.

Well here I am sick as a dog with a cold and not hungry for anything but I think I can give this a go...

Let's see it would be -

jalapeno cornbread made with sharp cheddar cheese,

pot roast like my grandmother makes that took me twenty years to get exactly right,

dark brown potroast gravy over rice,

field peas cooked with bacon,

fried yellow squash, eggplant and okra,

turnips greens with just a speck of bacon in them and hot pepper vinegar to go on them,

gallons of sweet iced tea to wash it all down,

home made pecan pie with nuts all the way to the bottom, not just floating on top,

homemade banana pudding,

big bowls of fruit salad,

fresh home made peach ice cream made with tree ripe peaches I picked this morning.

Reckon that would get me through to supper anyways.

Well, since we're talking about an imaginary world in which nothing you eat is bad for you, I'll go with all-you-can-eat at Old Country Buffet.

-- Cathy N. (keeper8@attcanada.ca), October 21, 2001.

Well, the Chinese buffet really does it for me!!! That's usually after I've had a long, hard day of canning and freezing my homegrown food....go figure!!!

-- Marcia (HrMr@webtv.net), October 21, 2001.

E: all of the above.

(Well, most of it. I'll pass on the sushi, caviar, and okra.)

One fav that I didn't see mentioned...

White sauce, a.k.a. Bechamel Sauce. Made of butter, flour, and milk with salt, pepper, and maybe garlic powder thrown in. Put that stuff on almost anything. Eat it straight out of the pan. Chop up boiled eggs in it and serve over bagels.
