Seth Johnson/Michael Carrick

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

According to the Mirror (I think) Arsenal to bid £15M for MC and Leeds to buy Johnson for £6M.

Carrick is to replace Parlour apparently who is on his way to ? Sunderland maybe? More likely to be replacing Viera who will no doubt be off somewhere else soon enough.

Would have liked either of those players in our squad but not looking likely.

15 mil is silly money for carrick, as 11m was for lampard-how ironic chelsea lost 11m this year?

Agreed, 15m is way OTT for Carrick though he does have loads of potential. I'd be surprised if Arsenal splashed that much on him - I reckon West Ham would crack if they got a 10m offer. Still think Johnson would be a good buy at 6m though there seems to be a lot of disagreement over that on the bbs.

what about t sinclair? i bet he'd be a handy player in the davids position, or am i thinking dreads?

£6m is pretty low for Johnson, we should be in for him at that low a price.

£15m for Carrick is PROPOSTEROUS

Dunno - he may not get that many games at Arsenal (look at Jeffers) so Carrick may prefer us.

I think Carrick is a loyal sort. I doubt he'll dump the Hammers

Surprised Ray Parlour's name hasn't cropped up before now. Seems to have been played wide right a lot by Wenger in the past couple of seasons, but didn't he play inside previously ? Good pro - could he do it again in b&w as part of the answer ?

Ray Parlour is a good player, but getting towards the Lee, Barton age and not the type of player I would personally be chasing for long term. Carrick from what I have heard seems to have forgotton his roots but would definately be the best buy from this Trio...15m out of order but he must be worth 10. 6 or 7m for Seth Johnson would be a good deal. I'd like to see Carrick as first choice but if we can't make it then Seth as 2nd choice for 6 or 7

Failing that is Gazzer off the wagon yet?

I heard that Parlour was going to West Ham and Arsenal were paying something like an extra 8 or 9 million quid to secure Carrick?

Why would Parlour go to West Ham? Doesn't Roeder have a huge hatred of players with floppy hair?

......so who is 3rd on your list bob, apart from Gazza that is?

From ESPN Ray Parlour Club: Arsenal Shirt Number: 15 Position: Midfielder Date of Birth: March 7, 1973 Birthplace: Romford Height: 5ft 10in Weight: 11st 12lb Profile:

Vastly improved player who came through the Highbury ranks and overcame early struggles to adjust to top flight football and win a place in the England club. Made his professional debut in Division One (back when it was the was the top flight) against Liverpool in 1992. Unfortunately for Parlour the Gunners lost 2-0.

Industrious, busy and attack-minded, he has added goalscoring to his repertoire but retains an unselfish approach and is very much a team player - was voted 'Man of the Match' when Arsenal beat Newcastle in the 1998 FA Cup final.

The loss of Petit and Overmars in the summer of 2000 meant that Parlour got starting roles in the centre as well as on the right of midfield, which is where he has played most of his football. The added responsibility and fresh skills required occasionally brought out the best in him, and he turned in some very good performances indeed

Just missed out on the England squads for France 98 and was tipped for selection for Euro 2000 but an injury ruled him out of the final 22.

He is still very much a name in the frame for further international football.

Has played in England's World Cup Qualifiers against Finland, (in which he very nearly gave England victory), Germany and a friendly against Italy in the post Euro 2000 era.

Talk of a move to Sunderland persisted with Peter Reid a known admirer, though Parlour appeared reluctant too even contemplate leaving Highbury.

Witness the new contract Parlour signed to take him through to 2004. 'Ray has signed an extension with the club and it's true that a player of his calibre could have accepted a more lucrative offer to move,' said his agent at the time. Parlour wants to stay.

Clarky

The trio was Parlour, Carrick & Johnson.....I really think Gazza is probably not on the shopping list.

How about that french geezer Zidane, he would probably make a useful stand in for Rob Lee....but there again Freddy says he isn't goin anyway.

Nah - can't see ZZ making it into wor team. Susie would have other "plans" for him.

-- Anonymous, October 18, 2001

ZZ isn't the player he was, the Real Madrid fans are supposedly well annoyed with him as he is playing consistently bad.

I liked the sound of that midfielder from Belgium (I think) was he an African? He was a big heavy guy, fast as f*** and had one hell of a shot on him apparently.

So if ZZ's not the player he was, who is he? Warren Barton?

-- Anonymous, October 19, 2001

There was a big feature in World Soccer when Real bought him contending that he had never been a good club player and that he has only shone for France...

-- Anonymous, October 19, 2001

But WB never played for Real. And I don't think he's French ;-)

-- Anonymous, October 19, 2001

Screacher, I knew your lack of knowledge would show you up. Barton did play for France, only then he was called G'Uivarch.
