CF version of EOS 3?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I was reading over the messages in another EOS message forum and there was a conversation going on about the revision number of the EOS 3. Someone said that there should be 19 CF functions. I just bought my EOS 3 and it only has 17. The code in the film bay is OOO918, which I believe means it was manufactured Sept 18, 2000.

Is there 19 CF functions for the latest EOS 3? And if so, how would I go about getting mine updated if that is possible? What does CF-18 and CF-19 add to the camera?

Although I know some boxes probably stayed in warehouses for awhile, I was suprised that mine was over a year old before it was even sold.

Thanks

Mike

I believe these are optional functions for controlling buttons found only on the L Super Telephoto lenses, e.g., EF 300 2.8L IS USM. If you don't use one of these lenses, they are useless. I recall seeing on the Canon Europe site a list of special CF you may add by request and a fee. Seems like there were a lot of them, but only room for 2 in the camera.

Here's what I was told in the EOS 3 group:

As told to me by Gochugogi: For a fee you may have a Canon Service Center (the one thats does pro cameras) install 2 optional custom functions in the EOS 3 (these are normally only found in the EOS 1V):

C.Fn-18: Determines method of preselected focusing point recall. C.Fn-19: Reassigns AF stop button on lenses to other functions.

These are only useful if you have a L series super telephoto with special AF buttons on the lens. I bet you really thought you were missing out on something big, eh?

Doesn´t the software upgrade to the EOS 3 also improve the exposure and the AF-speed?
