MATH! So tired.

We made it to B'ham and then to Pensacola and back.

So tired.

Still no computer at work, so I can't check in during the day.

Miss y'all.

Answers

An Bei so tired, too. Journalcon clazy!

Y'all HAVE to go next year. It was the best trip I ever saw. And Omar's rendition of Lady is not to be missed. By anyone. Ever.

I can't wait to tell y'all about Buffalo Bill. Because, oh yes, he was there.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

He WAS? Okay. Spill. Really!

Thank you for calling me. Even if you were all clazy. (And Keli very very drunk.)

I love that you were throwing MATH hands all weekend.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

I love that I got REQUESTS to throw MATH hands. It was awesome.

Okay, this goth dude named Nickolaus (Jessie kept calling him Freakolaus. Hee.) was there. I am going to find his URL so y'all can get the full effect of his craziness. He was completely paranoid schizophrenic, and clearly off his meds, y'all. And every time anyone on the panel would call on him (when he wasn't just plain interrupting), he would tell some crazy incomprehensible story with no point. ALSO. He lives in Joliet, and missed the train Friday night, and instead of staying in the room offered to him, just wandered around Chicago. Then he came to the hotel when the panels started. And poured himself a nice glass of White Zinfandel at 9 in the morning.

I couldn't even talk on the design panel, because every time I opened my mouth, he'd interrupt me with one of his, uh, stories.

And in my next long-ass post, I'll tell you what happened when he got up to read an entry.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Oh, AB, I can't wait for his URL.

Al, we saw Jay Farrar Friday night. The MOC was in our thoughts.

Little Rock.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

T - when did you get back to ATL?

I'm sure everyone was entralled by the power of MATH! That cracks me up.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

I got back on Friday evening. I fly back there on Saturday.

Y'all. I am SUCH a whore for Skymiles. It is frightening. I must achieve Medallion status by the end of the year. I mean, priority boardning and firts-class upgrades for every flight?? Must. Get. Segments.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Okay, y'all, it's nickolaus.diaryland.com. Haaahaaah!

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

I know. I get Continental and America West, which works well as they share. Aaaand, AW is giving you 3,000 extra miles if you book online. 3,000!! Which means I'll get almost 9,000 to fly to CA and back.

AB - who is Jen Wade? Why is she considered a cool kid? Why am I dumb that I don't know this?

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

T - did you see that you and naked Hannah have some etiquette questions?

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Jen Wade is an old school journaller from San Francisco--her journal is tight-science.com. She's always on Beth's forum, and is all smarty research scientist. She's so cute.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Did y'all get my notify yet? I sent it forever ago.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Yes - I'm going to get to them this afternoon.

The fact that I cannot transfer my Continental miles from Spain to Delta Skymiles is the bane of my existence. So many miles! Surely, I'd be at Silver Medallion by now. So sad. Delta has me in their grip. I freak out if I have to fly a different airline. I will pay $100 more for a ticket if that means I get the Skymiles. It is a quality of life issue, yo.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Well, I rarely if ever fly Delta because it doesn't make sense to from here. Unless I'm going to the ATL. The I will.

AB - nope, I havent' gotten it. Someone on diary-L was saying that topica was acting up.

I read the first sentence in that whack job's diary. It gave me a headache. So y'all were saying he was Buffalo Bill?

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Oh - and speaking of you flying to the ATL - Chris and I talked last night and we WILL be here for New Year's Eve. I'm thinking of maybe having a cocktail feast at our house that evening, and then we can cut loose on the town.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Yay!! That would be so, so fun. But we're driving, of course.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

I've been L_Led!

Mike must be working crazy nights again. Or maybe the poor chum has today off.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

That's not a bad drive, though. 8 hours?

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Yeah, probably like 9. I just hope the weather's good. That time of year you never know. I'm not sure what day we'll leave here, but we're staying through the first. Driving back on the 2nd. So we'll be there two full days minimum, maybe three.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Did you guys hear about the anthrax letter sent to Sen. Daschle?

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

The whole Capitol Hill thing is more than a little creepy - I'll be in that ofice building in two weeks. cree.pee.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Anyway. Enough creepiness. I made a lovely fall centerpiece yesterday. It involves a pumpkin, several gourds, Indian corn, and oak leaves. It's rather fetching on our breakfast table.

I'm getting excited about New Year's - we will have a glam cocktail extravagaza. Chris has been dying to make this recipe for a rabbit terrine that we found in Gourmet - this will be the perfect occassion.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

But remember, it'll have to be casual cocktail. $7 jacket (MOC) and Wilco tshirt (Eric) appropriate. Hee. No, I'm sure we can clean them up.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Oh, AB, still no notify! (Just keeping you posted.)

I think all of MATH should descend on ATL for new year's. Yes, I do.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

I'm here! A rare 2-10 shift. But I'm nights the rest of the week.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Yay Mike! Did you at least get a full day off?

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Yeah, yesterday.

I, too, appreciated the JournalCon phone call!

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Oh, Mike, Keli was so mad she didn't get to talk to you!

And we went and karaoked and when Emily and I did "Lady Marmalade", Keli kept yelling, "This one's for Berman! This one's for Berman!" It was great.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Joh - I emailed you pictures of Brett & Faith's new baby - she was born yesterday. Six weeks early, but by Faith's calculation, only three weeks, which is what all her babies were.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Well, that's awesome. I'm happy people were thinking fondly of me as I sat here twiddling my thumbs, waiting for tech to wake up and fix our computer problems.

Man, I was sad not to be there!

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

We were sad that you weren't there, either. Especially after the liquor started flowing.

The panels were all really good, too.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Hey, the girl-guy ratio alone would have been worth the trip!

(No need to tell the girlfriend I said that, though).

BTW, there's a theoretical possibility we may be in Atlanta for New Year's, especially if Maryland plays in the Peach Bowl on NYE.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Ahh, the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl. Mike, I tell you what - you know that we are, like, the House of Maryland. And if you could somehow help Chris get a ticket, he would be your beeyotch. He ended up getting a ticket to the Tech game last week, and he was a very, very happy turtle.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

BTW, there's a theoretical possibility we may be in Atlanta for New Year's, especially if Maryland plays in the Peach Bowl on NYE.

Ah! How fun would that be!!

Okay, Miss AB. We want stories! Dirt! What have you!

Did Dana call anyone a cocksucker?

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Yeah, he couldn't have been as happy as I was when Novak made the kick at the end of regulation. I was at the office, going nuts.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Aah! Mike! I was on the phone with him when it happened. There were what - five seconds left in the game? Fabulous.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Yeah, he kicked it with, like, five seconds left, and it went through at the final gun.

Was he going craaaa-zzzy?

(Sorry--apparently I just channeled starlight for a second.)

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Hehe. Mike, you're abit like Starlight! Hee. Ha. Heh. I know that you have a girlfriend and I have a fiance, and all, but will you be my reclusive internet lovah??

Mike, he was going NUTS. He was ecstatic. He had on his Terps hat and his Terps shirt. I imagine that Maryland will beat Duke this weekend - mercy, if they beat the CrimiNoles, I'll be a very happy girl.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Did Dana call anyone a cocksucker?

She didn't. And y'all, she and Rob are two of the nicest people I've ever met. I swear, their internet personas and the real-life people are like night and day.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

You know, I was at the Duke home game two years ago, and it was the worst I've ever felt at a game. We needed a win to go to a bowl, and Duke beat us on the last play of the game or something like that. It sucked.

I'm all about being your reclusive internet lovah. Hee! Or hah! But that would mean I could never go to Atlanta, since that would require me to leave my apartment.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

I swear, their internet personas and the real-life people are like night and day.

I'm starting to think that's the case for everyone.

Except for MATH. And stee. He's pretty much the same.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Look, I sneak onto the ONE computer in the office that has web access (DIAL UP!) and y'all are talking about Sky Miles? People!!! Goddamn!

I want:

1. JournalCon stories

2. Jay Farrar stories

3. You all to be jealous because I saw Slobberbone Thursday night in Athens before getting up the next morning at the crack of dawn, working half a day, driving to B'ham, dealing with the sick Bill Lowe and the crazy JoAnn, sleeping a few hours, getting up at Saturday's break of light, driving to Pensacola, singing in a wedding and driving back to ATL on Sunday. I guess you'll only be jealous of that first part, though.

4. I don't know what else. I'd like a Diet Coke, I guess, if anyone has one.

5. You can imagine how excited my household is regarding New Year's. Of course, if it involves anything that costs over $7, there might be some issues.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Dial up? In an office? You working in Afghanistan?

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Also, AB - what's the deal about Nov?

And also, I have to apologize for not answering much MATH e-mail this past week or so. Things have been totally, utterly CLAZY. But my dad is doing well now, praises.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Girl. Skymiles are very important to me. I am this close to having an automatic first-class upgrade every time I fly. Serious stuff.

Jay Farrar was wonderful. Unfortunately, I was in the restroom when he played Tear-Stained Eye. It was a GREAT show - him on the acoustic, and a really talented guy on electric. The singer from the Bottle Rockets opened - he was good, too.

Unfortunately, we left before the end because I was a sick, tired girl. Air travel does bad things to my stomach, sometimes.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Al--I don't know, I have to talk to Master V. But we're coming if we can swing it.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

AB, I am SO tempted to make a manage a trois comment in the JournalCon thread.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

You might just want to change that to menage. Journallers all over the place, baby.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Get out! Who??

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Am I crazy, or did usatoday.com used to have a health section?

OK, I think I should relinquish the computer, here, and let someone else use it. I'm only the marketing director, in charge of the Internet and all. Hmph. I should be all wired up by the end of this week. I hope.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

And why must WriterGirl be such a know-it-all?

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Mike - I was meaning to ask - have there been any powdery letters at USA Today?

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

OK: Health is http://www.usatoday.com/news/healthscience/hsfront.htm

No powdery letters that I know of, but we're not great about answering mail anyway. At least, I'm not.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Do you get a lot of mail??

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

I guess they stopped all mail into the Senate and House office buildings.

AB - was there really Emily kissing?

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

We get a lot of things from colleges -- media guides and such. No fan snail mail -- it's all e-mail.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Emily kissed me.

Then she got DOWN with MollyZero. Hahaaaah! Dana busted them in the bathroom of our suite.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Hee! Shut up, really?Wow. AB got some hot girl on girl action.

But I thougth she was sort of dating that Jo_Ham guy from 3wa? Ha.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

So, AB, was everyone skooled in MATH or did you have to break it down for a few peeps?

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Yo! The M to the A to the T...

Did Master V and Mad have a wild weekend in the ARL?

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Actually, Master V went to Austin, and Mad Mad stayed with a lady we know here--she had a soccer game/pictures, so she no able to go.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Holy crap. Someone just linked to me off the MATH+1 about page, and had 91 page views. That's clazy.

I hope we get lots of new posters from Jcon.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

And why must WriterGirl be such a know-it-all?

I don't know, but it's getting annoying. Lord. I can never bear to read her smartie pants entries. If she's writing about books or foreign films I skip it.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

I bet we will. We already got Emily!

WG gets on my very last nerve. She's become so overbearing lately.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

The Mighty Kymm is bald.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

I just want to say, "WG. You're a smart girl. You're well-read. You went to a fancy New England college. We get it."

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

What?? Bald for real? So, she's a bald woman who lives in her friend's basement?

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

So who was the funniest person there (besides yourself, of course)?

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Yes. And it's pink. And her nose is pierced. And when I find a picture of her shoes, I'm going to post it.

Just for the record, yes, I know. I'm going straight to hell.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

I think AB just likes to taunt us. She just busts out with these little tidbits every so often to keep us salivating.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Funniest person there--hmmmm. It's a tie between Omar and Dana. Dana was funny the whole damned time, but Omar's reading of his entry and the karaoke may upstage even that.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

...AB just likes to taunt us...

Because I told y'all to go months ago and you refused. So there.

No, really and truly, I just remembered. I don't see how I'd forget, but I did!

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Her head is pink, you mean? Now, is she bald in a Sinead O'Connor way, or in a Sy Sperling way? I must know!!

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

If you really really want Chinese history, the place to go is either The Search for Modern China or the Rod MacFarquhar anthology whose title escapes me at the moment. There are a number of Cultural Revolution memories available -- Nien Cheng's Life and Death in Shanghai is one of the most highly regarded, if I'm remembering correctly. Waiting is definitely a good book but it's not specifically about the CR.

WE GET IT, already!

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Sy Sperling.

Let me rephrase: Her remaining strands are pink. Bright fucking neon ugly-ass gross split-end straggly pink.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Sheeeeeeeeeyit. That is no way to live.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

No, it isn't. I'll tell you that for free.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Y'all can't even come close to knowing how wrong and no-way-to-live- ish it is. It was BAD. Indescribably and extraordinarily bad.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

I had heard that about TM Kymm. Pamie met her a while back and was like, "Uh, she had purple hair and was very scary."

I guess she dyes the strands

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Doesn't surprise me.

I like her journal because I like her writing style, but it's very much the same thing year-in, year-out.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Dude. She lives in a basement. I imagine it's difficult to get some variety.

Hey - maybe we could introduce her to Mysterio.

(AB, I'll be in hell with you).

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Is it wrong that I really want the Snow White DVD?

AB - how did you not stare at her head? Tell me you took a photo.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

I'm getting the Snow White DVD, so don't feel bad.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Also... WHY is Kymm bald? That's the question I have to have the answer to... is it the basement living? Does she pull it out? I have to know.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Well, she is like in her 50s right? And why did I always think she lived in LA, I don't know.

AB - I *just* got your notify. (It's night and late and dark.)

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Oh, and on your notify, where it says "organization" it says Nixhilton. I figure you don't want that.
