He was half a yd off, but what about that blatent penaly from that youngster , you were lucky it wasnt 6-0 cole hits the post .

That said the same youngster looks a canny little player.

A little more luck and Bellamy would have had 4 on his own.

6-0??? Do you not mean 6-1? In the pub last night it was interesting to see Newcastle fans cheering Man United goals.Fancy cheering on your rivals!!!!!!!

Hey SK......how small-time are Sunderland? Couldn't sell all their tickets and thousands were available on Ticket-master. Yer club has fucked-up with that too. At NO time did anyone on Ticket-master question the support of the applicant and nowhere on the ticket does it say anything about home or away suport...yet hundreds of us were turned away at the turnstyle yesterday and many more ejected as te goals went flying in.

You gave us 3000 last year...and 1000 this year. What IS it about you North Easterners....NUFC and Boro are all the bloody same!!

-- Anonymous, October 14, 2001

i never saw anyone ejected yesterday. The normal area where away fans go undercover is the centre of the west stand.I sit close to there and never saw a Man u fan at all.And if we cannot sell our tickets how did we get a record crowd for the ssol? Hundreds turned away? More Manc shite i think.

Soops - according to my paper some of your lot were kicked out near the dugout where MonkeyHeed was sitting. Abusing him apparently

Hey Kev.....t/s 55-66 Acc.20 Row 12 seat 655. Behind the goal Metro FM South Stand. My seat as described above. The ten to the left of me were United. The 9 to my right and the twelve in front were...err...empty.

Some of us never even got through the turnstyles and when you scored our 1st (ta) it's was an open account for Sunderland OB.

Coming here in coming days and uttering shite like "I was in the Sunderland end and proudly stood up ALL game ME. Oh YES. And there were 920374 Mancs in there with me too. Oh YES." <<<<<<<<<<<

superkev, I don't think you ought to join Spurs. I know all the London press have decided that they are the "best of the rest" (conveniently forgetting the Gross days) but there are a few things that they need to bear in mind.

The average age of the Spurs team in their last game was a staggering 30.2 years - if they replace Sir Les with KP then it only goes down to 29.6.
The average age of our team yesterday was 27.3 years and we had 3 of the 4 oldies playing who cause so many debates and differences of opinion.
If Glen Hoddle believes so strongly in reincarnation, why doesn't he trust that any of his youngsters are Eusebio returned?

p.s. Yes, I admit it, I have finally got sad enough to work this crap out.

There was a twat on 606 moaning that he'd bought the ticket for him and his mum in good faith and they couldn't believe it when the SAFC lot said they couldn't go in the home end. LOL. I mean, has the bloke EVER been to a football match before? In fairness, though, the Internet tickets were on sale before the season started so SAFC should have known better.

Dougal.....if that was the guy's 1st ever game...so what? C'mon..we ALL had to start at game one. The fact is, had Sunderland not been the fuckin' twats they were and chopped 2000 of the allocation for the vistit of Manchester United who happen to be the most widely follwed club in the land, then blokes like him or many like us would not have had to go through ticket-master only to find oueselves either evicted or not even let in. I thought you were a legal eagle?

ALL Aston Villa tickets warn of the consequenses of being an away fan in a home end. That's fair...but openly selling briefs on - line..asking NO questions and having no written word on the tickets about home / away fans is out of order. ANOTHER example of football fans being treated like twats. Anyway...like I said earlier...there were empty seats all over the place.

LR, it was said laughingly: the bloke just sounded madly naive saying that he didn't think the Sunderland fans would mind if he leapt up and yelled when your lot scored. I mean, in fairness..... he wasn't a young lad, by the way. I agree about sitting in the home end - I've done it myself once or twice - sometimes it's necessary if you want to get in to see your team. Thing is, you can't wear your own colours and expect to get in without an argument. I agree it's stupid to put tickets on open sale without specifications about ejecting away fans if they are found in the home sections and I think the club selling tickets like this are probably in contravention of certain of their football league responsibilities.

Kev, it'll be like the Makem in the Ronnie Punter's Panel earnestly thanking us for beating Man Utd because they are YOUR rivals.

-- Anonymous, October 14, 2001

Incidentally, the oldest average age for a squad squad we've put out in the premiership was 29 on 28 December 1999 away at Leicester. We lost 2-0.

-- Anonymous, October 14, 2001

You sure you have the right match, Softie? If that's the one I went to with Dougal and Screach, I remember us winning (2-1??). I don't think we'd gotten that pissed before the match, or even after. ;-)

-- Anonymous, October 14, 2001

Absolutely right ciara, I was looking at the wrong column. It was actually 18 October 1997 away at Leeds where we lost 4-1. Barnes and Rush didn't help the figures at all that day.

I remember that game, watched it at the 1892 bar, we went 4-0 down and Gillespie scored a consolation. We played very badly that day.

-- Anonymous, October 14, 2001

'we went 4-0 down and Gillespie scored a consolation'

That's how much use Gillespie was. :-))

-- Anonymous, October 14, 2001

Gillespie was interviewed on the BBC America footy preview show this weekend. Had nice things to say about his time at Newcastle, primarily recalling the 4-3 Liverpool match.

-- Anonymous, October 14, 2001

Seems strange that a Manchester United fan would remember a Liverpool victory so vividly. Especially when he spent the game on the bench. Perhaps he means the declassinated version the following season when he scored.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Did he mention the team trip? And how Shearer's his best mate?

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Strangely not, Kegsy. ;-)

Wouldn't surprise me if the preview show got interview and highlights mixed up. They seem to be trying to fit an hour's worth of material into 1/2hr with commercials.
