Reactors shut down at Milton atomic lab JIM KINNEY, The Saratogian October 13, 2001 MILTON -- The Navy and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory are not talking about the nuclear reactors at the Kenneth A. Kesselring site in West Milton. Soon after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, it was made public that both reactors at the site were shut down.

Jim Burns, a spokesman for Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna, said Friday he couldn't comment about the reactors' status at this time. He specifically refused to address reports that one or both of the reactors were still shut down.

''We have security measures in place,'' Burns said. ''I can't comment on them.''

Naval officers assigned to the base also declined comment.

Knolls runs the Kesselring site in West Milton where about 1,300 Navy personnel learn how to operate nuclear power plants used in submarines and aircraft carriers.

The facility is about eight miles west of Saratoga Springs off Atomic Project Road
