APOLOGISTS FOR TERROR TRIUMPH AGAIN

By ANDREA PEYSER

October 13, 2001 -- WHY doesn't the frigid brain trust in Oslo just award the Nobel Peace Prize to that wacky Iraqi, Saddam Hussein?

It's official. The useless, clueless, America-bashing, Israel-hating open sore on the East River - the United Nations - has won the Nobel Peace Prize, along with Secretary General Kofi Annan.

Why should we care?

Because the prestigious prize has the effect of validating on a global scale the disgraceful actions that have emanated lately from the United Nations, a body that acts as a laundry service for the vile notions of America's enemies.

Last week, U.N. members elected Syria to the Security Council.

The U.S. State Department calls Syria a "state sponsor of international terrorism." In a twist worthy of George Orwell, the terror-lovers are in charge of global security.

Syria's ambassador, Mikhail Wehbe, gave voice to the kind of moral relativism by which terrorist sponsors justify murder.

During a U.N. debate on counterterrorism, Wehbe declared that Israeli "occupation is the most savage form of terrorism." This, less than a month after savage terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center.

All resistance to Israel is legitimate, according to Wehbe. It is but a short jog down the ideological sewer to argue that terrorist acts against the United States, a proud ally of Israel, are justified.

Our country's resistance to the mind-slop that gains legitimacy within the United Nations has made the United States a proud outcast. Remember, the United Nations - friend of every two-bit dictatorship allergic to democracy - booted America off its human-rights commission!

And the United Nations sponsored this summer's disgraceful "Conference on Racism" in South Africa, which devolved into a furious West-bashing orgy.

Kofi Annan gets high marks from the Nobel jury for, essentially, failing to annoy anyone. Anyone, except survivors of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, who accuse Annan - then head of U.N. peacekeeping - for failing to stop the slaughter.

It takes guts to stand up against evil. This week, Mayor Giuliani had the gumption to tell a billionaire Saudi prince to shove his $10 million donation to the trade center relief fund after the prince used his moment in the spotlight to blame our friendship with Israel for the murder of 6,000.

What do you think Kofi would have done?
