Suspicious Envelopes in NY Both Postmarked Florida NEW YORK (Reuters) - Suspicious envelopes sent to NBC-TV and The New York Times that are being investigated by authorities amid concerns about potential germ warfare were both postmarked St. Petersburg, Florida, and contained similar letters, the FBI (news - web sites) said on Friday.

An employee of the NBC Nightly News program tested positive for skin anthrax on Friday and a journalist with The New York Times received an envelope at her office on Friday morning filled with a white powdery substance that was being tested.

``These were addressed to the two media outlets, they were addressed to the individuals and we are not going to provide anything as to the actual contents of the letter,'' Barry Mawn, head of the FBI in New York, said at a news conference on Friday evening. ``There are some similarities between the two. I'm not going to tell what was said in the letters.''

The test on anthrax returned on Friday morning on the NBC employee was not the same strain as the inhaled anthrax bacteria that killed a 63-year-old employee of American Media Inc. in Boca Raton, Florida, and infected two other employees at the same company, officials said.

The FBI has opened criminal inquiries on the reported anthrax cases, which have all occurred at media companies.

Geez since I requested the time, you'd think I'd remember to put it on my posts...

The letter received by Microsoft in Reno was sent from Malaysia. This is getting far too weird.
