THESE PATHETIC, LYING LOSERS ARE A SICK JOKE

By ROD DREHER

October 10, 2001 -- IT was hard to pick out a favorite moment in the loony left's cop-bashing press conference yesterday - until the deranged Juanita Young opened her mouth.

Young is the mother of Malcolm Ferguson, a nine-times-convicted thug who was shot dead last year in a scuffle with an NYPD officer trying to arrest him. Six bags of heroin were found on his body.

Young said yesterday the officer (later cleared) who shot her son, and other cops accused of brutality, are worse than the terrorists who destroyed the World Trade Center.

The terrorists, she said, were at least brave enough to surrender their own lives to commit murder.

"Those cops, when they killed us, what did they lose? Nothing," she said.

Understand what this awful woman said: Islamic terrorists who killed 6,000 - including 23 NYPD officers - are more noble than New York's Finest.

Not a single member of the anti-cop coalition present to announce an Oct. 22 protest march objected to this revolting statement.

Not one.

How could they have? Many of these yahoos had already taken the microphone to declare in various ways that there was no moral difference between terrorists and police officers.

Others insisted that the Sept. 11 attacks were America's fault, and that the American attack on Afghanistan was part and parcel of what one speaker called "a national epidemic of police brutality."

A man from the Haitian Coalition for Justice denounced "the institutional racism and xenophobia which is at the core of U.S. society," as exemplified, he said, by flying Old Glory.

Samia Halaby, a sour-faced Palestinian, denounced "Zionist occupiers" of her homeland and the media, who she said are concealing the "imminent failure" of capitalism.

What that had to do with police brutality is anybody's guess, but it didn't matter. That was thrown into yesterday's fetid cesspool of the Left's smelly little orthodoxies on immigration, racism, the war on drugs, imperialism, McCarthyism and Mumia. Always Mumia.

How silly were these people? Pakistani-born Sarah Hussein wailed that since the attack, she has been oppressed by "stares and looks." A teenager identified only as "Lakeasha" posited herself as a modern-day Anne Frank because a police officer once asked to see her identification.

At that point, one half-expected to hear from the Constitutional Peasant from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," the hysteric serf who denounces a puzzled King Arthur in Marxist terms.

"Shut up!" says the king.

"Oh! Come and see the violence inherent in the system!" yelps the peasant. "Help! Help! I'm being repressed!"

I don't mean to make light of the hateful comments the radical crazies made yesterday. They are despicable, malicious liars, and it is important to know that they're still around.

But it is also important to know that nobody cares what they have to say anymore. They are not a threat. They are a sick joke.

LEFT WING ZINGS ‘TERRORIST' COPS

By ADAM MILLER

October 10, 2001 -- Calling the NYPD more sinister than terror kingpin Osama bin Laden, a left-wing anti-cop coalition yesterday announced a nationwide demonstration against cop brutality.

While expressing their "heartfelt condolences to all the families and the victims" of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, organizers of the October 22nd Coalition said New York's Finest are the real enemy.

"We must not let the [NYPD] exploit our grief and other emotions to legitimize even more backward, repressive measures against us," organizer Flaco Scott said at a Manhattan press conference.

"The supremely ironic thing is that the U.S. missiles that were lobbed onto the cities in Afghanistan over the past few days had the letters ‘NYPD' scrawled over them by the military personnel to symbolize revenge for the attacks.

"But what they truly and deeply exposed was the fundamental links between the stolen lives here and those in Afghanistan," said Scott, referring to the coalition's claim that more than 2,000 people have been killed by cops over the past 10 years.

Scott also slammed President Bush and Mayor Giuliani, saying, "They have never stood for justice" or "against the taking of innocent lives."

Juanita Young, mother of cop-shooting victim Malcolm Ferguson, said the trade center attack was "just another form of [NYPD] policing."

She charged that cops like the one who killed her heroin-dealer son, who had been arrested 13 times, are bigger cowards than the terrorists who toppled the Twin Towers.

"Those terrorists gave up their lives in taking innocent lives," Young said. "But when the police take our children away from us, they don't risk their lives. Those cops . . . what do they lose? Nothing."

Activist Miguel Maldonado said the NYPD is "waging a terrorist war on people of color."

The Patrolmen's Benevolent Association did not return a call for comment.

The coalition plans to march on Oct. 22 from Union Square to Times Square to protest alleged law-enforcement abuse.
