So, what is everyone doing? Anyone buying a flag?

Answers

I'll probably bring a scarf, my brother has a few flags which he's brought to games before.

I can't imagine a lot of people doing anything different

The club are in touch with the big flag makers with a view to getting four for inside the ground.

Metro Radio, and possibly Northern Rock, are to give lots away outside the ground, and the club are looking to give some away in the family enclosure.

Metor are going to be pushing it next week, and Tyne Tees are going to give it a mention too on their Friday preview.

Sorry, I've obviously missed something here. Care to explain?

Stevo, the Spurs game is a designated flag day where you are encouraged to bring handheld flags etc - to show that we are Boro in disguise ;)

P'raps we can nick an Eye-tie flag from the Pizzeria on Saturday night at PB's C@ke @nd Arse P@rty. I nominate Dougal to do it.

So after banning the fantastic giant flags we used to have at SJP, the club now wants to have a flag day??

-- Anonymous, October 10, 2001

..... and that surprises you Al?
This appears to be their big concession to the FLC. Tossers!

-- Anonymous, October 11, 2001

I thought it was Fireman Sam who banned the flag.

-- Anonymous, October 11, 2001

It was the local fire service who banned the larger ones, although MUFC accept that you can get fireproof ones, hence those flags you see at their ground.

The club have said that flags under a metre have never been banned from the ground. This means that we can't take in normal sized flags. I've got a Peruvian flag 8 metres x 4 metres that used to fly on the twin towers of wembley. I wonder if I could get Nobby to put a massive signatureon it, then get permission to hang it infront of the unfinished side (between the East stand and SJH stand).

Macbeth ,,,,,,, can you fix it?

Rik

I've emailed the guy who can say yes or no, to request this for you. He will come back to me. I haven't requested a big Nobby signature you'll have to sort that our yourself.

Clarky don't be cynical !!!!!

The FLC are having big fights over little things before we even get on to seriuos stuff. There seems to be some people in the club who view the FLC as a disaster waiting to happen and don't trust us in the slightest. We somehow need to gain their confidence. We felt that a flag day would be an easy win, and they'd see we were not just after them.

You'd be amazed (yes I know you wouldn't be really) at the struggle we've had to get the club doing things. We finally found the right person the Monday and things are moving along. We requested free flags for kids for example and the person we were speaking to was horrified at the thought, I mean think of the expense. We finally got to a higher up person and they suggested that the club buy big flags and put them up.

We were so pissed off with them for a while that we just wanted to walk away from the whole idea of the flags but they've finally done something a bit more positive.

If the thing is a success (and I'd like someone to get photos of Clarky waving his wee flag please !!) then we should get some brownie points from the club. We can then start to move on to things like ticket prices, away game allocations and all thos other wonderful things that come under the collective irresponsibility that is the ticket office.

Rik, I've got a flag belonging to you - from the Chelsea Semi.

Thanks for the explanation dougal. At the fag-end of last season, when Sparta were about to play a crucual relegation play-off the main sponsor and club combined to give every supporter a little plastic flag to wave when the players strode onto the pitch. 'As though this will help!' I thought rather cynically, it did add all to the atmosphere + Spart won, though I did feel a berk waving mine.

MacBeth - I'm truly sorry if my cynicism appeared to undervalue the efforts of a lot of sincere people, like yourself, on the FLC. It certainly wasn't intended to, and I apologise for any offence they may have created.

My cynicism was directed exclusively at the Club, and their continuing appallingly negligent attitude towards their fans - as vividly experienced by myself only two days ago. Your observations from the FLC only provides further support to my instincts.

Nevertheless, you are most certainly fighting a worthy cause, and as you suggest, the only possible way to make substantive progress is to work on small issues to create credibility and establish trust. If you don't take this approach it will all crumble to dust - however, even with your proposed approach I'd be surprised if you are able to make a genuine impact on really significant issues.

Personally, I couldn't tolerate such frustration - which is why I never considered putting my name forward - but that doesn't mean it couldn't prove to be a valuable forum. Keep up the good work marra.

Flag day?? I thought that we were the leaders in the tacky gimmeck (is that spelt right??)for creating an atmosphere! Gimmeck? gimmak? eh,how do you spell that????????????

-- Anonymous, October 11, 2001

Please see my other thread regarding flag size. All restrictions have been lifted !!! A heart warming, for me, turn around by the club !!

-- Anonymous, October 11, 2001

I know, Kev, when I heard about this, I remembered us singing "Are you Boro in disguise?" at you lot for that cringeworthy red and black cards thing in the derby. That's the PL, for you. Having said that, it seems to be much more about the club and the fans being reconciled and a lot of work has gone into it, so I'm not knocking it.

-- Anonymous, October 11, 2001

To be fair though i thought that the card thing looked good.Although we do not need a boost when you lot 'visit' us! Is it gimmick????

-- Anonymous, October 11, 2001

I have a real hotmail address now!!!! I am sure the word is gimmick.....

-- Anonymous, October 11, 2001

It didn't look good: it looked like a sad concession to Sky. However, you see that sort of thing all over the Premiership so I'm not knocking you lot particularly.

Yes It's Gimmick ............ Graham

.

Think I would have chosen a different one, only thing worse than being called Graham is being called Seymour.

-- Anonymous, October 11, 2001

Dougal , you can keep my old Chelsea flag, I don't support them anymore. I'm a Newcastle and Peru fan nowadays.

-- Anonymous, October 11, 2001

doesn't the peruvian flag have a crest in it or something ?

-- Anonymous, October 11, 2001

Welcome to the real superkev - Graham.

P&ss off to the real nob - Rik

;O))

-- Anonymous, October 11, 2001

is "real nob rik" related "realpolitik" ?

-- Anonymous, October 11, 2001

I don't believe he's related to anyone Mac - he's a reet b@stard is that Rik. Allegedly

-- Anonymous, October 11, 2001

Rik, we had to send the club our bit for the match programme. Our chairman wrote the bit about the flag day and mentioned your Peruvian flag, and your name. Cos I wasn't able to confirm that you were up to taking your flag I had to take your name out, sorry !!

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001

Not taking my flag Macbeth, As I said, I think it might get set alight by fans thinkng it was a makem flag. No where to hang it from anyway.

-- Anonymous, October 15, 2001
