Tornados are in Oklahoma now

Massive Tornados are in Oklahoma currently. There has been at least one F-3 (based upon early assessment) that wiped out 1/3 of an entire town west of OKC. So far, there have been at least 7 touched down, and they don't think it'll let up anytime soon. :(

Tornadoes Touch Down in Oklahoma and Nebraska, Destroying Homes and Injuring Several

The Associated Press Published: Oct 9, 2001

Tornadoes tore through western Oklahoma Tuesday, destroying or damaging scores of homes and injuring several people. Twisters also touched down in east-central Nebraska later in the day. Authorities said some homes were leveled, power lines downed and trees toppled.

Cordell, a town of about 3,000 in western Oklahoma, appeared to be the hardest hit in the series of twisters that began touching down about 3:30 p.m.

An estimated 150 homes were uninhabitable, according to Michaelann Ooten, a spokeswoman for the Oklahoma Department of Civil Emergency Management. She said seven people suffered minor injuries and two were missing.

A hospital administrator said six people, including an infant, were taken to Cordell Memorial Hospital. Most had cuts and bruises from flying glass and debris. One person suffered a neck injury. Conditions of the injured were not immediately available.

"All I can say at this time is we have lots of damage," Cordell Fire Chief Tom Merrill said Tuesday. "We've got most of the emergency forces mobilized and we've got people already checking out houses."

Jr. Chagolla was at work at a car dealership and watched as the tornado passed through his neighborhood. His two-story brick house was reduced to rubble.

"It's gone. It's history," Chagolla said. "I'm just glad nobody was in it."

At a daycare center, children huddled in a safe room with 3-foot concrete walls and a steel door.

"We screamed and balled," said 7-year-old Jacob Fuller.

People could be seen streaming out of the southeast part of town, carrying sacks of belongings as they walked through debris-strewn streets, past mangled stop signs and toppled fences.

Tuesday evening, at least six tornadoes were spawned in a four-county area in east-central Nebraska.

Up to 20 homes were damaged and outbuildings destroyed in Polk County, about 45 miles northwest of Lincoln. The county Sheriff's Office said farm equipment and irrigation systems were damaged.

In surrounding counties, two homes, a trailer and a barn were destroyed, authorities said. Hamilton County Emergency Management Director Randy Warner said one minor injury was reported.

Tracy Nyberg, 29, was checking cattle at his mother's farm, northeast of Polk, when he saw a giant funnel cloud approaching.

"It was something to behold," he said.

Currently at about 7:48 central, there is a huge line of storms that is going across the metro. The band is narrow, but producing high winds, hail, heavy rain, and flooding everywhere. Weather men/women predict the possibility of tornados today just like yesterday.

Driving into work, the sky was very dark. Lightening everywhere, and when it struck, you could see the start of little fingers coming down from the clouds. Try telling a small one that probably nothing will happen.

Good grief--look at that radar!

Tell me about it. I had to walk the 5/8 mile from the parking lot to the building. I'll dry out about the time to go home. :(

I have a golf umbrella, and it didn't even help. When the winds are blowing so strong, the rain goes straight across. I needed to put wipers on my glasses.
