Today, October 8, we members of the Catholic Church family honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- saints whose souls are now in heaven:

St. Gratus (French, bishop, c. 652)
St. Hugh Canefro (Italian, chaplain of knights, d. 1230)
St. Iwi (English, deacon, hermit, d. 7th century)
St. John Leonardi (Italian, priest, co-founder of Clerics Regular of the Mother of God, formed Confraternity of Christian Doctrine [CCD], d. 1609)
St. Keyna (English, virgin)
St. Reparata (Palestinian, 11-year old girl; after emerging unhurt from a funace, martyred by beheading in 3rd century)

If you have anything to share about these holy people, please reply now -- biographical episodes, prayers through their intercession, the fact that one is your patron saint -- whatever moves you. If you are interested in one of these saints and want to find out more about him/her, please ask. Information is sometimes available on the Internet.

All you holy men and women, saints of God, pray for us.
God bless you.

John,

I Read St. Bridget's featday is on 7/23 in one book. In a other book I read the feastday was today. So I went back to the question I asked you about St.John The Baptizer having 2 feastdays on 8/29 and I saw that St. Bridget was not one of the Saints that you said had 2 feastdays. I Think the book I have might of made mistake in saying today was St Bridget's feastday. The book was A Benedictine Prayer Book that gave St. Bridget 2 Feastdays one was 7/23 and the other feastday was 10/8.

Take Care,

David S

Hi, David.
St. Bridget of Sweden's feast day is on July 23. That is the day of her earthly death -- sometimes called a saint's "birthday into heaven."
The confusion is caused by the fact that her feast was formerly on October 8. I believe that this was the day (or day after) her remains were removed from her adopted home (Rome) to her native Sweden.
The Church greatly revised the liturgical calendar in 1969, after Vatican II. St. Bridget's feast was probably moved at that time.
God bless you.

Dear Moderator,
Please delete the reference to St. John Leonardi from my original message. My source of information was off by one day, as St. John's feast is actually October 9.
Thanks. JFG
