No one will agree with this . . .

Our best chance of a silver pot this season is the Worthington Cup. I for one would focus on this objective more than any other.

Quite possibly. Fortunately, I think YBR is of the same mind, so he probably won't pick the team I selected! But even so, if we are to have a team/squad to be reckonned with, he has to give some of the fringe players a chance.

I agree ;-)

not sure whether that's with your statement in the thread title or the body of the post

It may be our best chance of silver pot this season, but i think we deserve a good run in the FA- cup. The Worthington Cup doesn't mean much to me, the FA- cup does.

Robson has said he is picking his best team as he see's the WC as a way into Europe.

The Worthington up is a Mickey Mouse competition, I'd personally rather we didn't win it - I'll hang on for when we win something proper, I've waited long enough and a few more years won't kill me (I hope). Who wants to win a cup that most of the best sides don't take seriously? It's a bit like winning division 1 really - best thing about it is that it gets you into a better competition. I don't think I've even watched the last few Worthingtons finals.

With due respect Al - I'd take it, and the UEFA qualification. It's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!

Yeah I know what you're saying and of course I'll be dancing in the streets with everyone else if we win it. But when we do eventually win something and go suitably mental, I don't want to hear people saying "Oh, it's only the Worthless Cup, the good teams don't bother with it" or "well done lads, you beat Arsenal reserves, Leeds juniors and Birmingham, big deal".

But that's the point ... we never do beat Birmingham! Scousers were very pleased to have won the Worthless I remember. So would we be!

We've all waited long enough. My need for a trophy is so bad I'm not functioning as a normal person. Last year when Liverpool won two cups in a matter of days I was so jealous, I was green-eyed with envy

This team this season has great potential (worrying weaknesses as well I know). Why can’t it be this season to dance in the streets?

I'm all for dancing in the streets, I'd rather it was for something a bit more dance-worthy than the Worthless cup. I'd like us to win something that says we were the best in a particular competition, not just the best of the sides who weren't good enough to be able to ignore it. We don't put our best side out in the Northumberland Senior Cup and play the reserves, because we don't think it's a cup worth winning. Sounds a bit like Arsenal playing their reserves in the Worthless to me. I do take your point though, it must have been fantastic to be a Liverpool fan last year. And I do, of course, reserve the right to change my opinion completely round about the semi-final stage!!

I think it's nothing short of scandalous that we should be setting such store by the Worthington as a European option, but I agree: this is an important competition for us.

we will undoubtedly win the Worthington Cup when it no longer has a European place allocated to it :-((

Despite us taking this competition seriously we have already had appearances from 20 different players in 2 games.
