Dems reach new low: Using tragedy to raise money is unconscionable

WHAT KIND of people would hold a fund-raiser to "honor" firefighters after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks then keep all of the money for themselves? New Hampshire House Democrats, that's who. Before Sept. 11, House Democratic leader Peter Burling of Cornish and House Democratic Whip Ray Buckley of Manchester had organized a fund-raiser for the Committee to Elect House Democrats. But somewhere along the way the invitations to that fund-raiser were reworded so as to make it appear that the event was being held to honor firefighters.

The invitation read, in part, "At this time of national mourning, we should pause to honor the true heroes among us — those who put their lives on the line every day." It also listed the names of firefighters who supposedly would be honored. But nobody asked the firefighters whether their names could be used and none of the firefighters knew the event they were to attend was a Democratic Party fund-raiser.

"It's horrible," one of the firefighters told the Concord Monitor.

When the ploy was exposed, Rep. Burling quickly began damage control. He announced that all of the proceeds would go to a fund for the families of firefighters killed in the Sept. 11 attacks. But firefighters were still outraged and Burling wound up canceling the event and spending a day on the phone apologizing to dozens of people.

But what does one say to apologize for so egregious an offense? The wound caused by this act will take a long time to heal, and the act itself will cause citizens to question Burling's judgment for years to come.

We can only imagine the outrage and the pain that firefighters, as well as those who lost loved ones in the terrorist attacks, must feel at being used in such a crass and thoughtless way.

Politicians are known to pull some dirty stunts in their efforts to get re-elected, but this is a new low even for the party whose leaders have raised money illegally from the Communist Chinese, held fund-raisers in Buddhist temples, and rented out public property (namely the Lincoln Bedroom) to raise campaign cash. Makes us wonder, what will they stoop to next?

Democrats cancel their fund-raiser. Firefighters feared tragedy used to benefit campaigns

Innocent mistakes were made. Some were offended and the event cancelled. WOW, let's make this into something it really wasn't.

No wonder you didn't provide a link or your name on this thread, "libs are idiots".

"...this is a new low even for the party whose leaders have..."

Yes, indeed. This was low, mean and borderline fraud.

But it wasn't "the party" that did it, it was (I quote) "House Democratic leader Peter Burling of Cornish and House Democratic Whip Ray Buckley of Manchester" who committed this act. Do you think they went around asking Democrats whether they should pull this stunt? Not hardly.

Oh sure, the democrats planned the fund raiser with the full knowledge that the towers and pentagon were going to be attacked in the future so they could take advantage of the emotional and financial reactions.

It's kinda grasping at straws to try to tie the two together.

They did wish to show their respect and honor the fallen heros, which even car commercials are putting into their advertizements. So they wanted to show their pride in our heros...it does not mean they are trying to get money from their deaths.

A quantum leap? Perhaps. Grasping at straws? Maybe. Blatant partisan reporting? Kinda.

Keep this in mind Cherri the next time you get ready to go off on one of your anti-Bush rants.
