LONDON, Oct 8 (Reuters) - Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips has told the club he's ready to quit unless it wins a major trophy this season. "I must emphasise the time has come for Sunderland to start delivering," Phillips was quoted as saying in the Star newspaper on Monday. "I've fulfilled my ambition of playing in the premiership and wearing the colours of the country, but I've got to the stage in my career where I need to be winning trophies. "I would like to think that is with Sunderland, but we need to be signing big names quickly and showing the right signals." Sunderland recently sold Scotland midfielder Don Hutchinson to West Ham United for five million pounds ($7.39 million) in August and Alex Rae to Wolverhampton Wanderers for 1.2 million pounds in September. "I was disappointed to see two fantastic players leave the club and we can't afford to be left behind this season," Phillips said. "Personal accolades are fantastic and I'm proud of my achievements here, but I'll be 29 next year and I want to be playing in the big games and of course testing myself in European competition." Sunderland are currently seventh in the premier league with 12 points, five behind leaders Leeds United. Phillips has scored four league goals so far this season. ($1=.6767 Pound)

Very interesting - I had no idea this was the current exchange rate.

Out of the trophy challenging clubs, Who would want him ?Liverpool, Leeds, Arsenal, Man u , Chelsea and Newcastle all have enough strikers.

Spurs would have him, as soon as he hits 30, as this is the major requirement of Spurs signings.

Philips, is he really soo good? He scores a lot of goals FOR SUNDERLAND but i think that's because of the fact that he's their only real threat upfront. If any1 played for a team where all the midfield pinpoint 1 man upfront then they are bound to score a lot of goals. I think he is very much over-rated. He has never been injured and always plays 90 minutes, that is why he breaks records, not because he's the best striker in the league.

Sven Knows this and that's why he's been diregarded. He'd be shite for England. Sunderland play boring football. They rely on getting a scrambled goal, penalty, make something out of corner kick ect..

Phillips to be fair does get a hell of a lot of chances - whether this is due to quality service from Kilbane or being in the right place at the right time I don't know. He certainly wouldn't get that many chances for England which is why he isn't an ideal international player. Shearer in his prime would need one chance to score, Phillips most of the time needs a few.

Actually, KP is a decent EPL striker. He's scored some great goals in his time. However, a lot is down to his partnership with Quinn. Whether he is liley to score as many with a different style of play is unknown. But it seems likley that we will find out sooner or later.

He is very good but has no international experience at an advanced age. Teddy has age but also has experience, and an unbelievable luck !!

In the Premiership he is very good and in a decent side he will score 20 goals a season. Sunderland are a decent side, with a limited style of play. It could be that if he was at a footballing side he'd score even more.
