strap lug ears on CL

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Has anyone else crunched one of the strap lug ears on a CL? Do they straighten out without breading off or should I leave it? Can M5 type lugs be fit to a CL?

I would guess that no one else has had this problem.

I have not tried it and if I was you I would not attempt rebending it - if it breaks off you will need a new body shell - Leica may have them but it will cost. I would just carry on with the damaged lug. I doubt that the M5 lugs go onto the CL at all easily as the CL body is all one piece.

One question is which lug is bent? The top one is part of the main camera body while the lower one is part of the removable back. The top lug is a seperate component to the top cover and therefore should be able to be removed separately by a tech and if they cannot straighten it im sure you will find Leica who keep unrepairable CL's for parts will be able to provide this component. The one on the removable back would mean replacement of the whole back if it breaks but certainly you should find Leica has an old one to replace it. Never underestimate what Leica keeps spare. They provided me an eyepiece for a microscope made in the late 1800's! It wasnt new but hey who cares? PS sorry for the late response i only just noticed this thread
