Swamp thing on TB, said she saw 4 people throwing up on the way to the store and back (2 on the way and 2 on the way back from the store) She didn't say what state she lives in. Thought I would post it here just in case it turns out to be something we needed to know.

Maybe they had just heard the attack news? Could have kids in the service?

-- Anonymous, October 07, 2001

Could be, I'm curious still what state she lives in. Stu sent her a PM to ask where she lives.

Please post the reply here. I got into TB long enough to copy Mutter's message to post here, and that's the last time I was in.

I tried to get back in 3 times and it is too busy. If she replies and I can get in, I will post it here.

She lives in Louisville, KY. Could be those people ate at the same burger place too.

That's about five hours south of me. . . .

It's cooled down a lot here with freeze warnings tonight. I'm hopeful that the temps might slow down the spread of any airborne pathogens that may have been released into the crowds.

I hope this is okay to repost this here. ******************************************** This is a post by swampthing Louisville Ky

"They were all passengers in these cars could of been car sick but 4 in an hour and a half?

Also this AM we could hear a high pitch sound/ring seemed to be distant. At first I thought it was the compressor on my AC hummin and went to check if it was on and just locked up or something by the time I got outside it had stopped.

Then in church I could hear it and wrote a note to my wife she nodded she heard it too and the lady beside her, being nosey, read the note over her shoulder and nodded she read it too.

probably unrelated."

I don't remember when I posted about getting sick from my preps...but as it turns out, the rest of my family got it one by one. Only the first of their cases didn't start until two weeks after mine. The kids' schools have many kids out with it, job has many people out with it...it's really just a flu bug, this happens at least once a year here. And everyone's immunities are prolly down right now too from stress.

Good point, Helen. I can't get my sugar down to its usual "this-is-my-star-patient" level and it has to be stress, although I don't really feel particularly stressed. I'm up to infection levels on the med intake and have cut out sugar completely. (I had been treating myself to one Glucerna diabetic shake or "candy" bar once a day.) I hope my vitamins are keeping viruses away!

The kitties feel a bit of stress too, tending to be more whiney and curling up closer and more often. Sweetie's about the same as the cats :)

I think I have the winning number on stress! Also withdrawal from the internet.

I hijacked my parents computer again for a while today. heh heh

One more day at the current hotel, then tomorrow morning we move to the new one where we hope to stay for a couple weeks until the house is finished.

What an experience! Waking up in the hotel room is weird, trying to remember where I am.

Good to see you! Did you read the 2nd anthrax case thread?

On the school children getting sick in Ill. and the school being shut down because of it...I am curious tot the results they find. I hope they find it is "only" food poisening. I can only remember getting sick once from food and it was from a sandwhich that you dip in au jour(?). This was from a restraunt here in town about three years ago.

I read the full text from Bin Laden's last pre-recorded tape message and it seems he was saying an eye for an eye, if I am correct...he mentioned the deaths of innocent children that he blamed the US for. He also said: "Its sons are being killed, its blood is being shed, its holy places are being attacked,...", I believe this part is what has been done to them. Notice the part about the holy places. I saw on the news last night where the "religious buildings" in the US are one of the things being watched along with other places for possible problems.

Barefoot, so glad you were able to get on the net for awhile. I know what you mean about staying in a hotel when you didn't plan on it. I hope everything goes well for you and back home soon.

All,

I read an article earlier (will see if I can find it again and re- post it) that stated we'll have that nasty Type A flu again this year. This was the same bug that hit us at rollover ('99-'00) and swamped the hospitals.

I can personally tell you that I ended up with bronchitis, mom with pneumonia, and there was NO warning. No sniffles - nothing. Wake up one morning fine and by nightfall you had a 101 F fever and whatnot...

Ok, here's the article regarding the flu:

Bodies to be dug up in war on killer flu

By Robert Mendick 07 October 2001

Scientists have applied to exhume the corpses of 10 Londoners buried more than 80 years ago to discover the genetic make-up of the world's most deadly virus.

The bodies, says Britain's leading flu expert, could help explain why 40 million people died in the 1918 outbreak of "Spanish flu". Research on them could help to combat future global epidemics.

John Oxford, the Government's flu adviser, is convinced a highly contagious and deadly strain of the influenza A virus will strike within a decade. The last time a type A strain struck Britain, two years ago, 20,000, mainly elderly, people died, bringing the National Health Service to its knees. A type B flu hit last year with less effect.

Professor Oxford, of Queen Mary's School of Medicine in London, predicts another type A flu outbreak this year with a really nasty strain hitting the planet within 10 years. "We are anticipating a pandemic in the next decade," he said yesterday. That makes the race to discover the cause of the 1918 pandemic all the more urgent.

After two years' detective work, trawling through undertakers' records, his team has tracked down 10 young people, who died of Spanish flu, buried across London in lead-lined coffins. The lead will have kept the corpses preserved, he believes, allowing scientists to examine the corpses and the genetic code that makes up Spanish flu.

The removal of the bodies will have to be done with extreme caution. Professor Oxford admits there is an outside chance of unleashing Spanish flu again."It has to be done very, very carefully," he said.

A previous expedition, two years ago, to dig up the bodies of seven coal-miners on Spitzbergen, a Norwegian island above the Arctic Circle, proved only a partial success because the corpses were "cold but not deep-frozen".

Professor Oxford said: "We got some gene signals coming out from [the Norwegian corpses] but we suddenly realised we didn't have to go to the north pole – we could get a lead-entombed one in London."

Professor Oxford must now trace the relatives of those buried in London to get permission to dig up the corpses. He will also need authorisation from the Home Office and cemetery owners.

Fair use, for educational purposes.

There is a post on TB, from a person who got up early one morning and I think by 8 AM was really sick...sounded like he got a bad case of the flu. With you also saying this, I'm glad I heard about it was going around, just in case I or others around here get it...knowing that's all it may be.
