Books on Money Saving

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

I love to read and I love to save money. Most of my family thinks I'm insane! For my mom's birthday recently, I wrapped her gift in some very pretty light blue vinyl wallpaper. It was gorgeous and very heavy duty. Topped it with a bow I've used for about 5 years. After she left I smoothed out the paper, rescued the bow and stashed them for another day! I only use 3 small pieces of tape to wrap a gift so it is easier to recycle! I have read many money-saving books. My Tightwad Gazette Volumes are just about wore out. Does anyone ahve any books, new or old about saving money I can look for at the library. I just really enjoy this topic.

Melissa, why not go to Amazon or another site like that and do a search there? You can usually read a short synopsis and even reviews in some cases. Then, armed with the title and author name, hit the library. Now that's the money-saving way to find and read books on money-saving! ;o) I hope this helps.

The only problem with Gary's answer is, you don't get to keep the book. Homesteaders and books, well you know...The library in Versailles has books for $.25 to $1.00 continually, maybe your library has used books for sale.

I don't know of any other books but I like your wrapping idea. I use material scraps and mylar balloons and interesting sacks for wrapping.

My daughter gave me a copy of "Miserly Moms" by Jonni McCoy that has a lot of great info. I believe she got it from the miserlymoms.com website. The author even autographed it for her.

Wishing you enough.

One I like is "The Busy Mom's Guide to Simple Living" by Jackie Wellwood. Subtitled: "Creative Ideas and Practical Ways for Making the Most of What You Have". Published by Crossway Books of Wheaton Illinois. Ask your local Christian book store. I think I got mine from Christian Book Distibutors (www.christianbook.com), which is where I used to get most of my homeschool stuff when we lived in the States. Now that I've dug it out to find the author's name for you, I think I'll read it over again. I always learn something new every time I read it.

Hello Melissa, There are numerous books under the catagory of "simple living" that may not show you how to save money but, would show someone how not to spend money. Thus.....in the same sense, you are saving money. Sincerely, Ernest

I really have read at least a hundred books on this topic and that of simple living! I thought maybe there would be some old books that you all have, or some very new ones (last year or so) so I would have something different to read. I am a read-a-holic and can usually read at least a book a day. I like to read different books, because occasionally I might find a new hint or idea I hadn't thought of. I guess that is why I like these forums, something new everyday.

The richest man in Babylon, is my all time favorite book about money and wealth. It contains the basics.

I searched, half.com and found 7 copies of the original version (mid 50's) for $2 each. This is a good gift for children and grandchildren.
