2-2 final, Beckham tied it injury time. Hermanns drew 0-0 so we are through to the finals.

I raise my hat to David Beckham. Well done that man. In a lacklustre midfield, Beckham ran his socks off. He covered every blade of grass on Old Trafford. If ever there was an inspirational performance, today's from Beckham was it, capped by a goal letting his team mates off the hook.

Excuse me, I'm just off to buy Posh's new CD.

Screah - its a book she's got out not a CD - or is this just a marketing exercise for his wife.

The guy was awesome. Do manure need a right back in exchange for Beckham ?

Beckham has been a revelation recently. The rest of the team were extremely poor I thought.

Wish I could get as engaged in an England match as I do for a NUFC game, I just don't have the same emotional attachment. Still glad we're through of course. Glad for Dabs that they didn't lose either!

Spawny gets!

Josh, I don't care. Book, CD, Posh Spice Rack. I'll buy them all. I thought Beckham was a class above the rest.

PS. Just seen the Sky pictures from within the commentary box when Beckham scored. It looks like Trevor Francis sh@99ed Michael Owen. Ah well, I suppse he thinks its better than getting screwed by Karen Brady.

Becks was great, the defence were shocking and the fowards were hopeless. The Greeks were very good, surprisingly so. I assumed that Dabs was their star player: not the case (although he was OK).

What a bloody exhausting afternoon! In truth we were hopeless - sloppy in defence, our passing was generally awful, and we didn't create very much at all - but who really cares, we're through.

Like the previous posters, you just have to say "thank the sweet lord for Becks" - he was simply AWESOME, driving the team foward and running himself into the ground.

I actually really fancied him to put that last FK in - he had been trying to put too much pace on his previous free-kicks, I was sure he would be telling himself "just hit the target. Top man David, brilliant captain's performance.

BTW - Posh does have a new CD out, as well as a book.

Buy them both!

Fantastic effort by Beckham, a worthy captain.

Beckham has to be respected. From below Zero to hero. Great stuff, but it would NEVER EVER persuade me to part with any cash for his wife.Under ANY circumstances.

Got to agree swifty - not even a free ticket for a night of unbridled passion!

-- Anonymous, October 06, 2001

Swifty - with her cash she could pay.

Screach - Wrighty was having otrgasm in the Beeb on - Misery guts Hanson aven complained about being kissed by him.

Gosh Josh. Do you alsho fanshy Posh or are you jushed pished ashwell?

-- Anonymous, October 06, 2001

Actually, I didn't want to push the CD thing - but I did hear King David mention it today.

Got to agree with what has been said, we were absoultely crap today, only Beckham seemed to care. The midfield were atrocious, Rio and Ashley Cole stood out as clueless, Neville had a canny first half but did nowt in the second. McManaman came on and didn't even touch the ball in 10 minutes. It's amazing how much luck England have had. Firstly there is today, no one could have complained if we lost, and secondly the German game, that was a real let off, their 'keeper is basically England's hero.

Also, don't forget that Germany could so easily have had another 3 or 4 goals against us in Munich. I wish Newcastle had that much luck.

As Napoleon said "Give me generals who are lucky" ... or summat like that!

-- Anonymous, October 06, 2001

Maybe showed just how good Michael Owen is ?

-- Anonymous, October 06, 2001

Real insight from SGE tonight - "I don't think we played very good today".
You see, that's why he's a top Manager.

-- Anonymous, October 06, 2001

Although Owen missed a canny few chances against Albania - against a stronger team he wouldn't get that many chances. I just hope our luck continues into the world cup finals otherwise we may be embarassed.

It is a good job that Owen was injured in a way - it shows how much we rely on him and something needs to be done about it. I reckon a fit Dyer alongside either Scholes or Gerrard would be a more creative midifield pair than at present, either that or play both Scholes and Gerrard with Dyer left wing.

-- Anonymous, October 06, 2001

Actually, I like the sound of Dyer on left wing - he can defend reasonably well for an attack minded player, he is pacy and skilful, just what we needed today in midfield.

...not that Mr B needs any more praise but...three further points:

1) Apart from taking it, he (yet again) won the free kick from which ten second sub Sheringham scored...and Sherry re-paid the compliment in the 93rd minute with a similar - "professional" - foul/free kick.

2) Who had the ball at his feet as the final whistle was blown? Do refs have a private man of the match award?

3) Predictable calls re Arise Sir David, but what if his parents had settled in Strathclyde, rather than Essex? Anyone have sympathy for Craig Brown? An honourable man.

Paul
With spawn like that, who gives a sh1t ?

-- Anonymous, October 06, 2001

Spawn?

-- Anonymous, October 06, 2001

All hail David Beckham! His last minute goal even had Pete out of his seat. Awesome performance. (:o)

-- Anonymous, October 07, 2001

Can we take a moment to praise the Greeks? I'd happily see a couple of their players at SJP.

-- Anonymous, October 07, 2001

Greece really deserved to win. England were poor apart from Beckham who was amazing.

-- Anonymous, October 07, 2001

Paul
Just meant that it wouldn't bother me that much how badly they play if they can keep coming up with results like that.

Hell on the nerves, but if that's how it is, so be it, better than playing beautiful football and losing.
