Taliban Orders Journalist Released

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar has ordered the release of British journalist Yvonne Ridley arrested last month in Afghanistan, a news agency reported Saturday.

Afghan Islamic Press, a private news agency with connections to the Taliban, quoted Afghan authorities as saying she would be released this weekend.

Ridley was arrested Sept. 28, along with two Afghan guides and was held pending investigation into spy charges. Copyright © 2001, The Associated Press
