[EAS] HEADS-UP For New England Area This is from a forum member who sent this to us for posting...

Husband and I live in Castleton, Vt.

Been a long time lurker, but have info that I have to pass on and is should make headlines here in Vt.

We both work at GE Aircraft Engines here in Rutland Vt. We make all the blades that go in GE Engines, Military and Commercial. There are a few exceptions made by our sister plant in Bromont Canada.

We work 2nd shift and thru the GE grapevine, we heard rumors before work, but upon starting our shift we were called into a meeting and told that early Friday morning the U.S. Gov. had contacted GE's corporate and passed the message on to the rest of the plants. They said, "there is a high probability of a terrorist attack taking place in the New England Region within the next 48 hrs."

We were told that if we were uncomfortable staying at work we could leave. Then a short speech on how they had stepped up security. Our foreman said the Gov. had said they had also contacted other businesses that related to the warning.

We have two plants here in Rutland. I would say that 2/3's of the people were gone by break time from our plant and the word from the other plant was more than half.

My husband and I stayed, very unsettling. Glad it's a weekend, don't think I could walk back in there tomorrow.

The way gossip is at GE it should make headlines in the Rutland Herald and I certainly hope it does.

********************************** Heads-Up everyone, especially those of you in New England area.

Yikes! That's sure gonna put a wrinkle in my plans for the weekend. Man, I hope it's just a rumor, stategically there's nothing really here.

[fair use...] From CNN

(CNN) -- Recent activities of known and suspected members of terrorist cells resemble those of the reputed hijackers and their associates in the days preceding the September 11 terrorist attacks, two senior U.S. law enforcement sources told CNN Friday.

There was no evidence of "a specific threat" against the country, the sources said. But, as one noted, recent information "adds to the sense of unease" among law enforcement and other government officials.

"There are people we are watching who are talking the same language -- things like "you will be happy soon" -- and other things reminiscent of pre-9-11 activities," one source said, referring to the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. "People talking the same language, circles of calls: things that are just very similar." (Full story)

Suspicious activities included travel in and out of Afghanistan, the second official said. Monitored conversations and other activities "much more overseas than here" in the United States also have raised red flags, the source said.

"People taking a trip, people not showing up for work: things that match the string we have put together as we re-create the events on and just before 9-11," have alerted authorities, the source said.

Law enforcement and intelligence officials believe the risk remains high that there could be another terrorist attack in the United States, especially if the country uses its military as part of the campaign against terrorism.

Do you think I should I go ahead and send out an EAS e-mail Heads-Up to the Northeast region so that people who open their email in the morning will be sure to look for this post in case it slips off the front page?

I won't be around to bump it back up....

I just got finished reading that over at TB and thought of the post that Old Git posted Thursday. I have copied it and will post it here. Seems we have two people who are talking about problems on the East coast. *******************************************************

Someone I've known and trusted for a very long time sent me the following message. A few minutes ago I received an IM from a friend in NJ. Her folks live about 15 minutes away from her. Her step brother is in areonautics at the Pentagon and advisor to the Bush adm. He had just called his mom and dad and said, "get all the cash you can together, make sure you have lots of water and the gas tanks are full on the car. Do it NOW! I cannot say anything more, but trust me. Do it now!" Thats all I know and the only thing I can say is that I know this woman and she wouldn't tell me BS. They are not doomers but they do stay prepared and were prepped for Y2K. She was headed out for the grocery store and to pick up the 4 year old at preschool. I realize this is what I call "sh** kicking" info and there is nothing you can do with this info except keep your eyes open and powder dry.

I don't usually pass on fourth- or fifth-hand info but. . . I kind of figured that something is in the works for as soon as Rumsfeld and Blair leave the Middle East. This may be a confirmation. Anyway, it's good advice for these times. Wouldn't hurt to get the cash, fill up the jugs and put gas in the car.

All you can do is go about your business, stay fairly close to home, and listen to your car radio. Just be secure in the knowledge that if anything does happen, you are far better prepared to handle the effects than 99% of the population. That fact alone should ensure your sanity in the next few weeks (months?).

Dammit, I wish we could have just ONE rumor from a first-hand source!

thanks, Mags...I had seen the other post, too..and I had posted something in my Management forum I had a dream vision about Philidelphis before I saw any of these.....and Kona is away at a wedding..I pray she will be safe...and Senses On is not on- line.....having trouble with her PC!!!!

-- Anonymous, October 06, 2001

I know, Git, wish we could have a first hand source...but with all the things I have been hearing..this one is different...I can't explain it..I am just more concerned over this "rumor" then any of the ones I have been seeing.

"Dammit, I wish we could have just ONE rumor from a first-hand source!"

OG, you and me both!

This may sound odd of me to ask this here on this thread but, will my storm windows give me more protection?

I don't need to know who the poster was who gave the last heads up but, would like to know if anyone can voch (sp?) for her. I hope that makes sense.

SAR, hope you can get in touch Kona and Senses On to notify them.

Two places keep coming to mind to me but, I don't want to put them here. The place you saw, Philly...having the Liberty makes me wonder. This is going to be a nervous weekend for sure!

Maggie, as far as storm windows giving more protection, well, I certainly hope so! Although the question would be, against what?

I have been switching the screens for storms. It would certainly do a better job of keeping out fallout (or making it easier to hose down later) and cut down a bit on air exchange.

So yes, get them up, and to the extent it makes any sense, keep as many closed as you can. And if there is more warning, pull them all down!

Brooks,

It's cold enough here to have the heat on. They are all in and shut. I don't have any for two small windows and the double doors that go out to the deck have thermal windows (double pane). I would really like to shelter in place, using all the house, in case something would happen. I was wondering if I would need to put plastic over the windows that had the storm windows on them?

-- Anonymous, October 06, 2001

Ideally, for shelter-in-place, I would think you should be putting plastic over ALL the windows, and preferably on the outside. Again, it depends what you are trying to shield yourself from. I think fallout is the most like air contaminant. Whatever minimizes it entering your dwelling and makes cleanup afterwards easier gets my vote. If there is so much that a careful plastic job is necessary, things will be pretty toxic outside for quite a while. If you are trying to keep gases out, weather stripping the windows might do more for you. Just my thoughts.

-- Anonymous, October 06, 2001

Thanks Brooks for your thoughts on this.

I forgot to mention that I have plastic film on most of the windows, the kind you normally put on to deflect the heat and give some privacy.

BTW darlings, DO make sure you're getting fresh air intake in the house from somewhere, even from underneath. If you totally seal off your house, you could die from heating fumes, carbon monoxide, or simply lack of oxygen.
