Russia tags plane crash as 'terrorism'

MOSCOW (Reuters) - The Russian Prosecutor General's office on Friday invoked a criminal case concerning Thursday's air crash, which killed up to 78 people, under an article dealing with "terrorism," RIA news agency said.

It said the criminal case was invoked on the order of Prosecutor General Vladimir Ustinov.

The Russian passenger plane, flying from Tel Aviv to Novosibirsk, exploded over the Black Sea on Thursday. All passengers are believed dead.

The article, under which the investigation is invoked, may be changed later. But it usually reflects the strongest theory followed by investigators.
