E36 to E39 Stepping Ring

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I just bought a LTM 90mm f/4 Elmar lens that uses E36 filters (1 337 xxx). As I have a set of E39 filters, I need a stepping ring to go from E36 to E39.

Did Leica make one? Code/Stok number? Or does anyone know a 3rd party who makes one?

Thanks!

Leica made an adapter to mount "Summicron" filters on a A36 lens. The code is/was SOOGZ/13154 and they show up on eBay occasionally. I have never seen one in the flesh but the pictures I have seem to indicate that this gives you an A42 and an E39 filter mount. Can anyone who has seen this item confirm there is an E39 thread as well? I just did a quick search of B&H and they do not list a third party one.

Cheers,

I have one marked E. Leitz New York. It clamps on to A36 size lenses and is threaded to take 39mm filters. They come up now and then on ebay.

Thanks! But I am a bit confused. The A and E designations are a bit confusing. As I understand it A means slip-on and E means screw-in.

E39 is 39mm screw-in and A42 is slip on. So on a lens that uses E39 you can screw in a 39mm fliter and slipon a 42 lens cap.

I've seen A36 and E36. My Elmar is listed to take E36 or 26mm screw- in. How can a lens use both screwin and slip on of the same size? If it uses E36 then how would A36 fit as well? I would expect that for 36mm screw-in it would take a 39mm slip on.

Or is A36 really larger than 36mm and slips on just fine?

Thanks!
