ECON - Layoffs are twice expected in September

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News : One Thread

Economists had predicted 100,000 jobs lost, turns out to be 199,000. Does not include jobs lost because of September 11 attacks. Private report suggests 250,000 jobs actually lost. Don't ask me to explain how official figures were arrived at and why attack figures were not included.

Experts say should not affect stocks; those folks are hedging their bets on government bailouts, not the unemloyment numbers.
