Who the hell does Glenn Roeder think he is???????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Please read his quotes for yourself on various websites but he is basically saying, in public, that he wouldn't waste a penny on Warren Barton, never mind the reported 1.5Mill bid. He also says he's aware WB is trying to get a move back down South. (I doubt it like)

Why does he have to say that, why couldn't he just, like any ordinary manager, say he wasn't interested - end of story.

he shows a total lack of respect to a player who has done nothing to him and also shows a complete lack of professionalism.

He was the same regarding the alleged NUFC leak re. Trevor Sinclair. Went off blabbing to the press, slagging Newcastle off.

Clearly he is a man with a grudge. I hope the gets the bloody sack!!!!!! idiot.

I suppose we can forget buying Carrick then.

I had exactly the same thoughts when I read the quotes on Sky Text

Whatever he thinks it isn't on saying things like that about colleagues in the football industry.

Surely if he said something similar about a referee, he would be charged. Why not charge him now after that, the tosser.

I may be happy about the idea of Barton leaving but saying stuff like this in public simply isn't on.

He probably still recalls Di Canio being publically aghast at West Ham appointing such an unknown as manager.

You do realise that Roeder is doing the things we wish our current players to do by managing at smaller clubs before finally returning to Newcatsle to manager them when he's served his apprenticeship.

I drove past St James' at 10, 0'clock this morning and saw Bartons BMW 4x4 parked outside. It was still there at 12 o'clock. I was hoping that he was in talks with Shepherd regarding a move to West Ham. Something is definetly happning regarding his future .He wouldn't have been at St James' all morning signing autographs for kids . Hopefully they'll be some truth in the story of Curbishley wanting him for Charlton. As for Roeders comments, pretty fair comment if you ask me. He isn't worth £1.5 Million end of story.

I believe the players are bussed (sp?) from SJP to Longbenton for training these days - presumably it's too difficult for them to find their own way there! So, seeing Dolly's car there may mean nowt Rik.

There were no other players cars there (that I recognised). I'd put money on him leaving this month. Especially after he sees the note that I left under his windscreen wiper.

Rik, we have players away for internationals etc so there would only be two or three there. Barton may have been having talks but loads of Football in the Community stuff goes on at SJP as well so I wouldn't read that much into it.

Whether any of us rate Barton or not is immaterial. Itis unprofessional for a manager of another club to slag another club's player off when he had done absolutely nothing to them.

Also - whether you think Roeder is 'doing the right thing' by learning his trade at a 'smaller' club is also of no consequence. I just think he is acting like an idiot. What other manager in the EPl would do that, even Ferguson would just say, 'we have no interest in that player'.

Roeder seems to have a bee in his bonnet about WHam being mentioned alot in the press in relation to transfers. Well that's just part and parcel of football.

I just don't like the way he is disrespectful towards our club and our players. I can't believe anyone can defend him!

Exactly Lynda. The man has alot to learn about public communications. I didn't know anything about him before he took over at WHam, and so far I'm not terribly impressed with his unprofessional bleating in public.

Very unfortunate and undeserving comments, made against a very good professional, by someone who should know better. I'm afraid this will do Glen Roeder no good whatsoever, and he will come to regret what he has said, in fact I would think he already does.

He has certainly fractured what was previously a very good relationship with the fans at SJP, as he will surely find out.

I totally agree with you Lynda. He can f*** off!

Personally, I don't want Barton to leave us. I would like to see him a Griffin rotate at right back, as they both have great days and crap ones. Also, it's no secret he's getting on a bit, and with all of the courses he's done home and abroad during his time at Newcastle and the respect he has from a lot of people other than the West Ham boss I think he would be an excellent coach in the near future. I say keep him here and get behind him, he's still a decent player when the fans aren't booing him.

Roeder is under pressure and has a credibility problem. He is, however, walking a fine line: if Keegan had said something like that, he would have been ridiculed and called "Emotional little Kev".

It just goes to show that being able to do Lester Piggot impressions won't necessarily make you any friends. Chinless twat.

...... off the Xmas box list then Softie?

Got very excited to hear about £1.5m for Barton...thought Glenda must've been pissed when that deal was mentioned. But obviously one set of lunatic decisions have been met by another, and he's let his gob run on automatic. Note for Glenda - engage brain, then mouth in that order. In the words of Keegan "he's gone down in my estimations".
